When News and Myths Collide

Although that's how Hollywood depicts Jesus, history tells us he didn't quite look like that.  But don't expect to hear facts from your favorite newsmodel at the Fox "News" Network.  Fox's "Rising Star"™ Megyn Kelly tells us that, in response to a Slate piece entitled "Santa Claus Should Not Be A White Many Anymore": "...for all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white, but this person is just arguing that, that maybe we should also have a black Santa. But you know, Santa is what he is and just so you know, we're just debating this cuz someone [...]

Soothing the Savage Beast

If there's been a theme running through this week's shows, it's been the nastiness with which those who sit on the opposite side of the political aisle from me (and, likely, you if you're reading this and listening to my shows) interact with us. It began with a tweet from a stranger to me. Out of the blue, this troll pops up on my twitter page to post @nicolesandler When you produced M&B it was all about risk & freedom & now you're a socialist?. Brian adored Ayn Rand, WTF happened to you? — Tom Cruz'n (@TinPotDickTator) December 2, 2013 [...]

Filibusted!

I'm so happy about this news that I won't even get all snarky about how there's nothing NUCLEAR about Harry Reid finally invoking the CONSTITUTIONAL option to change the Senate rules concerning the filibuster.  But use whatever hyperbolic imagery you want today, as the Senate just did something remarkable. History was made moments ago when, after a series of confusing votes, the Democrats were victorious in stopping the GOP obstruction of  executive and judicial nominees going forward. As my friend Marcy Wheeler @emptywheel just tweeted, Patricia Millet is about to become a lifetime appointed judge. Also, the answer to a [...]

ENDA the Hypocrisy, please

Today the Senate will pass the Employment Non Discrimination Act.  It's about time that people can no longer be fired because of their sexuality or sexual identity. The forces fighting to keep workplace discrimination legal seem to be doing so in the name of "religious liberty" - and even more damning is that the religion they're "protecting" is Christianity. Whoa! Does anyone else see the massive disconnect and overwhelming hypocrisy here? As a person of Jewish heritage who long ago used logic to rid herself of any organized religious beliefs, I do believe in the "golden rule".  I'll admit I'm [...]

Scary Monsters & Super Creeps

It's Halloween, the one day each year the monsters come out among us.  Unfortunately, they're out every day in Washington DC doing their best to hurt the most vulnerable in society.  They usually masquerade as Republican members of Congress, but lately they seem to have taken off their masks. They're cutting $5 billion from the SNAP (food stamp) program, and trying to keep the poor, average person from getting decent health insurance at a reasonable price. The list goes on and on.... just remember, they're monsters. Big thanks to Chris Hayes for putting the spotlight on the food stamp cuts [...]

A Little Something for Ted Cruz

So now we learn that the government shutdown that lasted 16 days will cost we the taxpayers around $24 billion.  I say we send Ted Cruz the bill! I don't know if the email address on the invoice is correct, but feel free to post it on his Facebook page, send it to him on Twitter, or email it to his office . So, after Cruz and his followers shut down the government, cost us $24 billion (so much for those fiscal conservatives), and put the good faith and credit of our nation at risk, these asshats got nothing. [...]

What GOP Really Stands For

The GOP used to stand for "Grand Old Party"... these days, there are lots of other meanings better suited to today's Republican Party.  My contribution is "Greedy Obstinate Pricks" - but others were just as creative. Enjoy... On today's show, I spoke with Absurdity Today's Julianna Forlano about the  changes in New York City. I read a bit from this NY Daily News article about how the Working Families Party helped move everything to the left, and helped propel Bill De Blasio past Christine Quinn toward the Mayor's office. For the first time since the office was introduced in 1993, [...]

Laughter and Lust… and everything in between

We covered a lot of territory on the show this morning, but the overriding theme was laughter.  After the last few weeks, I thought we needed some "funny" to counter the angst. I promised another edition of Oy, FloriDUH.. so here it goes (note: there is nothing even remotely funny about any of these stories - but taken together, they show the absurdity of life in America's penis): #1 Police in Jacksonville arrest and reportedly assault a man for walking while black on the wrong side of the street. First Coast News obtained court papers which state that Wingate was walking [...]

We Are Not The World’s Police

It's been one hell of a week, or one week of hell.  And it will continue and probably get worse if we respond by dropping bombs on Syria. Congressman Alan Grayson took full advantage of his five minutes to question Secretary of State John Kerry, Sec of Defense Chuck Hagel and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff  General Martin Dempsey.  If you didn't see it yet, watch it now: And now go to DontAttackSyria.com and sign on if you haven't yet. Congressman Grayson joined us for a few minutes this morning to give an update on his efforts to stop [...]

What’s the Matter with America?

The picture above is the perfect example of what's wrong with this country: People so stupid they continually vote against their own best interests while those hoarding most of the money do their best to keep the uninformed even more clueless than they already are.  After all, a naive electorate is one that'll allow those in power to grab even more of it. Of course, it's what Thomas Frank's seminal masterpiece, What's the Matter With Kansas, is all about. The author and that book, as well as The Wrecking Crew, another of his brilliant missives, came up yesterday on the [...]
