#YesAllWomen and “Chris’s Dad is Right”

I started seeing the #YesAllWomen hastag on Twitter sometime over the weekend. Even when a few people Tweeted telling me to follow it, I didn't make the connection between that and the massacre in Santa Barbara on Friday evening. I found the Tweets fascinating, and began searching for the story behind it. Though I still don't know where it started or by whom, the message is resonating with millions of people globally. I came across a beautiful essay this morning in The New Yorker, written by Sasha Weiss, "The Power of #YesAllWomen" . In the piece, Weiss tells how the hashtag [...]

Protect Your Radio

Just shy of a week after Randi Rhodes said goodbye to her radio show, Ed Schultz announced he's ending his radio program too. I have no idea what the circumstances are surrounding this decision, but I am disappointed that he gave no notice, leaving stations to scramble, and that he didn't do this before Randi left the air, as there's the possibility, with time opening up on some stations, that her should could have survived. Either way, that's water under the bridge now...  I understand that Thom Hartmann will now move his show back to the noon-3pm ET time slot, [...]

Gimme Some Truth

I'm sick and tired of hearing things From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics All I want is the truth Just gimme some truth Ive had enough of reading things By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians All I want is the truth Just gimme some truth -- John Lennon John Lennon's brilliant "Gimme Some Truth" should be required listening for all who aspire to elected office and all who purport to report the news. But because the lies come at us from every quarter and from those in position of power and authority so often, life often seems like a perpetual telling [...]

False Equivalencies (Yes Ed Schultz, I’m Talking To You)

Regular listeners of my show know that I've, at times, been critical of Ed Schultz. But nothing I've seen or heard from him before raised my ire as his segment last night on the Keystone XL pipeline. I happened to catch him shilling for the project with former Montana governor Brian Schweitzer on a couple of occasions, and was incensed when he basically concluded that even if the US acted responsibly with regard to the future of the planet, other countries like China and India won't, so we might as well reap the monetary profits from raping the earth. But [...]

When News and Myths Collide

Although that's how Hollywood depicts Jesus, history tells us he didn't quite look like that.  But don't expect to hear facts from your favorite newsmodel at the Fox "News" Network.  Fox's "Rising Star"™ Megyn Kelly tells us that, in response to a Slate piece entitled "Santa Claus Should Not Be A White Many Anymore": "...for all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white, but this person is just arguing that, that maybe we should also have a black Santa. But you know, Santa is what he is and just so you know, we're just debating this cuz someone [...]

Prouty, the Pope, and more Poop

Meet Scott Prouty.  We've been waiting a long time to hear from this man!  Scott Prouty came forward last night on The Ed Show as the guy behind the infamous "47%" video. Of course, David Corn and Mother Jones played a big role in getting the video out. Corn explained how it all unfolded. For nearly a fortnight, he and I had been building a long-distance rapport via private tweets, emails, and phone conversations as we discussed how best to make public the secret video he had shot of Mitt Romney talking at a private, $50,000-per-plate fundraiser in Boca Raton, Florida. Now [...]

Voting: An Intelligent Person’s Responsibility

Today is Tuesday-- primary day in Michigan.  If you live in Michigan's 8th District, I hope you wrote in the name of Lance Enderle for Congress.  We'll know by this time tomorrow whether or not the people of Michigan's 8th will actually have a Democrat on the ballot. But I guess it doesn't matter to Ed Schultz if there are any Democrats on the ballot where he's registered to vote (is it North Dakota, Minnesota or NY these days?), as he proclaimed on Friday that he won't be voting in the midterm election.  Actually, I hadn't heard this until a [...]
