The picture above is the perfect example of what’s wrong with this country: People so stupid they continually vote against their own best interests while those hoarding most of the money do their best to keep the uninformed even more clueless than they already are.  After all, a naive electorate is one that’ll allow those in power to grab even more of it.

Of course, it’s what Thomas Frank‘s seminal masterpiece, What’s the Matter With Kansas, is all about.

The author and that book, as well as The Wrecking Crew, another of his brilliant missives, came up yesterday on the show while I was taking with John Amato about the opposite world the GOP has led us in to.  So, I figured it was time to invite him back on the show.

He joined me in the second hour this morning for a frank discussion of today’s political realities and a look back at the nostalgic time through the Mad Men lens.  I always enjoy speaking with Thomas Frank. I hope you like listening.

In the first hour, after a brief congratulatory call to Jorge Rodriguez of SoFloRadio for our two places in Talkers’ “Frontier Fifty,” I played a video of something that shows exactly the problems that cause me to ask the question in the title of this post.  It’s a news report about a visit by Senator Tom Harkin to a senior center in Des Moines, Iowa.  Watch the report:

No person should have to go through what Sheryl Tenicat is experiencing.  It’s just flat wrong.

We needed to lighten things up a bit, so Julianna Forlano stopped by with TWO episodes of Absurdity Today!
