Dick Advises House GOP on Foreign Policy

When the House Republicans needed foreign policy advice, they turned to the man most responsible for getting us into this mess in the first place.  Cheney was the war's chief propagandist, who told the American public more spectacular falsehoods than anyone, including Bush himself. Cheney was the one who told us in 2002 that "Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction. There is no doubt he is amassing them to use against our friends, against our allies, and against us." He's the one who tried to convince us that Saddam Hussein might have helped engineer the [...]

Double Header Wednesday

Busy day today! I just finished my show this morning and am now getting ready to head up to West Palm Beach to guest host for Randi Rhodes... So bear with the brevity of this update. On my show today, I spoke with Vivek Tiwary, a ridiculously successful Broadway producer (with lots more to his list of accomplishments as well), whose new book - a graphic biography - The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story -  is a NY Times bestseller and soon to be a major motion picture! Susie Madrak joined in from her perch at the newly re-designed [...]

Scary Monsters & Super Creeps

It's Halloween, the one day each year the monsters come out among us.  Unfortunately, they're out every day in Washington DC doing their best to hurt the most vulnerable in society.  They usually masquerade as Republican members of Congress, but lately they seem to have taken off their masks. They're cutting $5 billion from the SNAP (food stamp) program, and trying to keep the poor, average person from getting decent health insurance at a reasonable price. The list goes on and on.... just remember, they're monsters. Big thanks to Chris Hayes for putting the spotlight on the food stamp cuts [...]

House Conservatives Are Revolting

The beauty of the homonym.  Although I've seen the title of this post in headline form before, editors seem to have caught on to the unintended reality of its meaning, and now use the clearer But I prefer my headline, as the true meaning of Revolting is personified by these treasonous, selfish bastards who are willing to destroy this country, it's economy and take down the rest of the world, because they're not getting their way. Robert Costa, at the National Journal, has been reporting on the revolting behavior inside the House GOP caucus.  If  you click on the headline above, [...]

How Ted Cruz Brought Down the GOP!

Sometimes, the analogy just appears out of nowhere. This morning while picking today's pre-show music, I was thinking that the GOP was stuck.  So I played songs that fit that theme leading up to the start of the show for those who checked in on one of my feeds a little early. ("Stuck in the Middle with You" by Stealer's Wheel, "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again" by Dylan, Todd Snider's "Stuck on the Corner", and U2's "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of" all seemed to fit in one way or another.) As I [...]

What GOP Really Stands For

The GOP used to stand for "Grand Old Party"... these days, there are lots of other meanings better suited to today's Republican Party.  My contribution is "Greedy Obstinate Pricks" - but others were just as creative. Enjoy... On today's show, I spoke with Absurdity Today's Julianna Forlano about the  changes in New York City. I read a bit from this NY Daily News article about how the Working Families Party helped move everything to the left, and helped propel Bill De Blasio past Christine Quinn toward the Mayor's office. For the first time since the office was introduced in 1993, [...]

Debt Ceiling Hostage Taking Redux

Oy. Here we go again!  They released they can't use their threats to "de-fund Obamacare" - so now they're just threatening to tank the economy and the good faith and credit of the country again. If you're wondering what's in their ransom note this time, wonder no further.  Zach Carter of Huffington Post joined in on the show this morning to talk about some of the outrageous demands he detailed in "House GOP Debt Ceiling Offer To Include Pro-Wall Street Provisions, Health Care Cuts" including ... a significant overhaul of the environmental and financial regulatory system, would cut pensions for Federal [...]

Hypocrites Exposed Here

I don't have enough time, enough space, or enough patience to list all of the hypocrites and their actions over the past few days - so let's start with a few. Texas parents want history book banned over  Second Amendment 'militia' definition. Parents in one Texas school district are demanding that one commonly-used history book be banned because they say that the mention of the word “militia” in a sentence about the “Second Amendment” is indoctrinating children to believe they don’t have a right to own firearms. Guyer High School junior Brie Getts told KTVT that she was doing her homework with [...]

Tuesday Titters

I thought we could all use a few laughs today, so after a serious conversation with Crooks & Liars' Susie Madrak about her piece "Anybody but Cory Booker," we had some fun at the expense of today's GOP and, yes, Anthony Weiner's wiener. There's nothing funny about who NJ will elect as its next US Senator, but I'm with Susie.  I'd much rather see a progressive like Rush Holt or Frank Pallone, but it seems as if the media has already anointed super hero Booker as senator.  Meanwhile, NJ is battling some fierce weather today, so turnout will likely be [...]

Fighting Back with Funny!

Yesterday, I wrote about the GOP's "rebranding" effort following their "autopsy" in the wake of the 2012 elections.  Let it be known that they're doing the exact opposite of everything recommended in that report. Just today, in his Plum Line blog at the Washington Post, Greg Sargent marveled at the backwards nature of today's Republican Party in "GOP opposition to gay workplace equality will do wonders for that 'makeover'" -  a piece about the fact that ENDA (The Employment Non-Discrimination Act) today passed out of the Senate Health and Education Committee with votes from three Republicans (Kirk, Murkowski and Hatch), [...]
