What I will not write about today: Infuriating news + snark chaser

Sometimes I get so frustrated and/or disheartened and/or annoyed by some of the news stories of the day that I can’t bring myself to write about them. Here are a few recent reports that made my blood pressure hit the roof. I am avoiding delving into them at length out of concern for my physical and mental health. CIA torture report not likely to result in reforms or prosecutions: "The Justice Department has cast the matter as a closed case... Federal prosecutors will not reopen their investigation of whether criminal laws were broken by CIA guards and interrogators for mistreating [...]

Dick Advises House GOP on Foreign Policy

When the House Republicans needed foreign policy advice, they turned to the man most responsible for getting us into this mess in the first place.  Cheney was the war's chief propagandist, who told the American public more spectacular falsehoods than anyone, including Bush himself. Cheney was the one who told us in 2002 that "Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction. There is no doubt he is amassing them to use against our friends, against our allies, and against us." He's the one who tried to convince us that Saddam Hussein might have helped engineer the [...]

Friday News & Newman

This was a surreal week. It was the week in which Glenn Beck admitted that we were right! This was the week that saw Fox's Shepard Smith speak the truth about Iraq instead of simply repeating the neocons talking points. It was the week in which right wing shill and apologist Mark Halperin called out Paul Bremmer for being the war monger that he is. It was the week that saw Faux News Channel's Megyn Kelly emerge as the one who took on Dick Cheney! Speaking of Dick and his evil spawn, Tina Dupuy wrote a great column explaining the [...]

Monday Madness

It was a crazy day... a double header, as I got the call to guest host the Randi Rhodes Show shortly before hitting the air here at Radio or Not. And I had to take David to the airport in between the two shows... So, running late, I was rushing up to Randi's studio and rear-ended a car at a stop light. Completely my fault... Anyway... here's the podcast.  Marcy Wheeler (emptywheel.net) and Nicole Belle with Fools on the Hill® helped make the show interesting...

Just Another Mundane Monday

I don't always hate Mondays, but the Monday after driving six hours in each direction to drop my kid off at camp is a day I'd rather be sleeping.  But it's such a busy week that there's little time for rest for the weary... On the road, I saw a slew of billboards for the law firm Morgan & Morgan, with Charlie Crist's face smiling down on me, reminding me that I have no clue what he stands for other than political ambition.  The former Republican governor of Florida decided to eschew a second term in order to run [...]

The Dog Days of Summer

According to wikipedia, "Dog Days" (Latin: di?s canicul?r?s) are the hottest, most sultry days of summer in late August. Dog Days can also define a time period or event that is very hot or stagnant, or marked by dull lack of progress. The name comes from the ancient belief thatSirius, also called the Dog Star, in close proximity to the sun was responsible for the hot weather. Well, the heat that plagued most of the country earlier this summer has, for the most part, subsided.  And there seems to be no such thing as a slow news [...]
