CPAC – Laughing Liberally

So the annual gathering of CPAC (Conservatives Pandering Asinine Convictions) starts tomorrow in DC.  Actually, not in Wasington, DC itself, but in nearby National Harbor, Maryland - ironically at the Gaylord National Hotel (ironic, because no gay lords or organizations are welcome). I began the show today be perusing the official program, having no idea how many laughs would ensue.  So feel free to glance through the guide and enjoy all the comedic offerings: CPAC 2013 Schedule The schedule boasts some can't miss book signings, like Beating Obamacare: Your Handbook for Surviving the New Health Care Law  by The Honorable Betsy McCaughey Spin Masters: How the [...]

Will the Gun Madness Ever End?

Before yesterday's hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee on gun violence began, a standoff in Alabama had already entered its second day.  A gunman boarded a school bus, killed the driver and took a five year old hostage where they are still holed up in an underground bunker. While the hearing was in progress, a gunman killed one man and injured at least two others in a shooting in Phoenix, Arizona. The day before the hearing, a 15-year old Chicago girl was killed by a by a gunshot while she huddled under a shelter in a Chicago park to [...]

Now is the Time

President Obama went big yesterday with his proposals on gun safety.  With 23 Executive actions and proposed legislation that he'll send to Congress as soon as tomorrow, he's stepped up to try to keep Americans safe from people with weapons of war. There are a few things that we, as concerned citizens, must do: Read the proposals put out by the White House.  It won't take you long, and being informed is the first and most important step to combating the insanity from the gun nuts. Call your representatives.  If you don't know who your Congressman is, click here to [...]

Congress, Guns & Money

Another day, another mass shooting... in Aurora, CO! When will the madness end?  Never, if the GOP gets its way. The chart above shows some common sense regulations that could be put in place immediately - and I think even the majority of NRA members would agree that these are practical ideas. Ten bills pertaining to guns were introducedin the House on the first day of the 113th Congressional session, eight of them by from Democrats seeking new restrictions on gun ownership. Dianne Feinstein is expected to introduce legislation in the Senate this week.   And Joe Biden's White House [...]

Busy Day Yesterday…

Sometimes there are too few hours in the day!  I'm just now getting around to posting yesterday's show (one more reason why you should subscribe to the podcast via iTunes or Stitcher..)...  Just as we were hitting the air for my show I got an email asking me to fill in for Randi Rhodes.... And Alison had a softball game last night (yes, we live in Florida - and it's the playoffs with another game tonight!) So, here I am taking a break from show prep for today's show to post yesterdays, along with links... On my show, I was [...]

It’s Election Day, Do You Know Where Your Vote Is?

I actually voted yesterday, by in person absentee ballot.  I know, that makes no sense, but remember - I live in FloriDUH!  The current criminal governor, Rick Scott, decided to cut the early voting period in half.  While we witnessed record lines, the Democratic Party of Florida filed a suit to extend early voting hours, a number of Supervisors of Elections of various counties took it upon themselves to offer this alternative: show up at their offices, have an absentee ballot printed on the spot, where you fill it in and turn it in.  Sounds simple, right? Unfortunately, Miami-Dade [...]

Obama Sunk Mitt’s Battleship!

President Obama was on fire last night, and Mitt resembled the Denver-debate Barack. The debates are over, and it's two out of three for the POTUS. Too bad that's not all that's necessary to put Election 2012 to rest.  The next two weeks are going to be brutal. This morning on the show, we'll listen to some of the highlights - and they most certainly came in the form of zingers courtesy of the current occupant of the White House. Author, columnist, pundit  Cliff Schecter will help me deconstruct what happened last night and gaze into the crystal ball. [...]

Which Mitt?

Election Day is four weeks from today, and it seems as if the Romney campaign has rolled out Mitt 2.0 (or is it version 3, 4, 4 or 6?).  Seriously, if you're confused about who the GOP nominee is, you're not alone. Daily Kos put together a short but biting video of Mitt Romney debating Mitt Romney on three issues: his tax plan, the need to hire more teachers, and health coverage for people with pre-existing conditions:  Mitt Romney debates himself Obviously, Mitt Romney goes which ever way the wind blows... Then there are the people who are now endorsing [...]

Down Memory Lane and Into the Future

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120830_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Mark_Thompson_and_politics_too.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   This picture was taken sometime around 1992, in the KLOS/Los Angeles studio.  Of course, that's James Taylor. And me. They guys to my left and my right are the famous (infamous) Mark and Brian with whom I spent four very busy, successful years as their producer. They signed off from their last broadcast two weeks ago tomorrow after 25 years together at KLOS.  While my four years as part of the show sounds like a drop in their massive bucket, it was a big part of my professional [...]

A Progressive Call to Action!

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120808_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Get_Money_Out.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   If we keep repeating what happened last night in Washington and Michigan, we're going to wind up with a Congress full of assholes like Allen West and Mitt Romney in the White House.  Last night, the voters in Washington's 1st Congressional district really blew it.  Instead of nominating a true progressive in Darcy Burner, they wound up with a corpora-Dem in Suzan DelBene, who'll likely not make it as far as election day in November due to her shoddy (illegal?) financial disclosure filings.  According to Howie Klein over [...]
