Thursdays with Howie Klein on the Nicole Sandler Show 3-21-24

Howie Klein of has done a weekly segment with me on this show for more than a dozen years now. We mostly talk politics, often music and occasionally other subjects too. And fairly regularly, Howie brings along a guest. It's usually one of the Blue America-endorsed candidates, but today's guest is slightly different. Steven Fulop is the Mayor of Jersey City. Tonight he'll deliver his 11th State of the City address. He's already announced his candidacy for NJ Governor; that election happens in November of 2025. So you might ask, "why today?". Well, that has to [...]

When I moved over from the music radio world, Joan was editor at We saw her regularly on MSNBC back in those days, then over on CNN, and we're now reading her at The Nation. I knew we had a lot in common, but it wasn't until I read her column in The Nation following the [...]

20230207 Nicole Sandler Show – Floriduh from the Revolting Villages to the Rockin’ Hard Rock Live     I've spent the better part of the last week sulking. One week ago tonight, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band kicked off their world tour, the first in seven years as they, like the rest of the planet, were sidelined due to the pandemic. Yes, I was there in 2016... and I've seen at least one show on each tour since The River tour in Lakeland, FL back in 1980. Thanks to the advent of Ticketmaster's so-called "dynamic pricing," I was afraid that I might have already attended my last Bruce show. But I held [...]

2-26-16 Nicole Sandler Show – A Future To Believe In

It's Friday, and Nicole is worn out from watching Bernie getting berated by Chris Matthews, and the mud wrestling posing as a presidential debate last night. But she'll talk about the state of the presidential race with Julianna Forlano. And for Flashback Friday, it's a conversation with Little Steven Van Zandt

Take the Threats Seriously

Americans have really short memories. It was less than a year ago that the Republicans shut down the US government for 16 very long days. And now Mitch McConnell is threatening to do it again. I suggest we take those threats very seriously. To refresh our country's collective memory loss: First, Federal employees were furloughed for a combined total of 6.6 million days, more than in any previous government shutdown. At its peak, about 850,000 individuals per day were furloughed. That number fell once most Department of Defense civilian employees were able to return to work as the Pentagon implemented the [...]

Absurdity is the New Reality

The late Frank Zappa was way ahead of his time. Yes, Absurdity is the new Reality! Just a glance at the day's news is evidence of that. I began today's show with the news that hell has frozen over. The best explanation I've seen thus far about the DC Circuit Court ruling that rendered Net Neutrality dead comes from Fox "News"'s Shepard Smith! And then, he called his corporate shill of a guest a "corporate shill!". Once you pick your jaw up off the ground, watch this: Today, the Senate Finance Committee (under the exiting Max Baucus) will mark up [...]

Don’t Drink the Water – or- Nowhere to Run

We're killing the planet. Actually, more accurately, we're making this planet uninhabitable. The picture above is one of a few I saw posted around the interwebs this morning of the "water" that's coming out of faucets in Charleston, WV today - after authorities gave the all-clear and said the stuff was safe to drink, bathe in, and give your kids. Lovely, huh? And even though information from Japan about what's going on at and around Fukushima is now non-existent due to a new state secrets law that prohibits the dissemination of information (and even prohibits journalists from asking the questions!), [...]

High Hopes

When I heard we'd get a new Springsteen song called "High Hopes," I wondered if it was a new song or a cover of the old Sinatra "classic".  It was neither... From the liner notes to the forthcoming album, also called High Hopes (due out Jan 14, 2014), Springsteen wrote: I was working on a record of some of our best unreleased material from the past decade when Tom Morello (sitting in for Steve during the Australian leg of our tour) suggested we ought to add "High Hopes" to our live set.  I had cut "High Hopes," a song by Tim [...]
