Boxing Day Broadcasts

Boxing Day, which falls on the day after Christmas, was the day that the upper class would give gifts to their servants.  Oy.  Today, in the British countries that still observe it, it's a shopping holiday, much like the Black Friday day after Thanksgiving has become here in the US.  An ode to consumerism.  Oh well... Today, I'm back at work.  The voice is back, the  cough lingering, but there's much to talk about - and I'll have two shows on which to do it. Join me this morning here at Radio or Not, and this afternoon on the [...]

American Exceptionalism, Or Not

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120703_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_American_Exceptionalism_Or_Not.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window Aaron Sorkin's new show, The Newsroom, got off to a big start - challenging the myth that America is the greatest nation on the planet.  On this, the eve of Independence Day, we'll ponder, discuss and perhaps even argue that premise, beginning here:   On the show and in the reviews, Jeff Daniels' character's amazing speech is attributed to a "meltdown".  I say it's a rare show of honesty from a profession that, more and more, ignores the truth in favor of rhetoric. Today, on the Randi Rhodes Show, [...]

Today, I once again have the honor of guest hosting the Randi Rhodes Show! Showtime is 3-6pm ET - and there are lots of ways to listen.  Of course, if you're lucky enough to have a local station that carries the show, there's always the over-the-air option!  If you have XM radio, just tune in to channel 168.  And you can always listen live at RandiRhodes.com. Today on the show, we'll continue our discussion of yesterday's historic Supreme Court ruling upholding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.   We'll have lots of time for calls at 866-87-RANDI (866-97-2634). One More Show and Final Thoughts for 2011

Today is December 30... and this afternoon, I'll guest host the Randi Rhodes Show one more time to close out the year. We'll finish our listen back to some of the highlights (and low points) of the year, ask for your New Years' Resolutions and talk with a few guests too... Comedian Ralphie May is headlining the West Palm Beach Improv this week, so he'll join me in the studio. We'll talk with South Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who also doubles as chair of the DNC. And we'll laugh with comedian Hal Sparks too... It's your last chance of [...]

We’re Still Here!

OK, so much of the country has checked out this week, but we're still here carrying on! Today is a double header... I popped in to finish off the year of the Nicole Sandler Show here on Radio or Not this morning.  Cliff Schecter and John Fugelsang helped us close the book on 2011.  That one is up on the podcast so you can listen in case you missed it. I'm now sitting in Randi Rhodes' studio, getting ready to fill in for her again today.  It's going to be another fun afternoon with another visit from Cliff Schecter talking [...]

I’m in for Randi Rhodes Again Today & Tomorrow

Big thanks to Shane-O, host of Funked in the Head for guest hosting my show last week while I was in DC, and for the first few days of this week while I guest host the Randi Rhodes Show. Yesterday, I was joined by Peter Nagy of NY Communities for Change, who filled us in on last week's Dec 6  and ongoing action Occupy Our Homes! Greg Palast checked in to once again make our heads spin while talking about the crazy stories he tells in his new book, Vultures Picnic! I also filled you in on my trip to [...]

Today on the Randi Rhodes Show!

Yes, I'm filling in for Randi again today, and we have a great show lined up for you... Although the South Florida Sun Sentinel continues to mis-characterize what I was doing at an event put on by my congressman and advertised as a town hall meeting...  I went to ask my congressman a question, and to have him hear what I had to say.  Isn't that what town hall meetings are for? Anyway, in today's paper, the headline reads "Protester arrested at Congressman Allen West's town hall meeting won't be prosecuted".  I wasn't there as a "protester," I wasn't a "heckler" [...]

April Fools

It is April Fools Day and, to celebrate, I've invited some of the best political comics to join me on today's Randi Rhodes Show. But before we get to the line-up, allow me to share with you some of today's news items that should be April Fools pranks but, unfortunately, are not... The DUH is emphasized in Florida, as a democrat is chastised on the House floor for daring to utter the work "uterus." Mike Huckabee suggests that we'd be in a better place if only all Americans were forced, at gunpoint, to be indoctrinated by listening to some right [...]

With Love

Today I begin a week guest hosting The Randi Rhodes Show.  This had been planned a while ago, as Randi is packing up and moving from Washington DC back home to South Florida. I filled in for Randi on Friday, beginning the week-long stint a day early, as her dog Simon was not doing well.  If you're a regular Randi listeners, you know that Simon has been ill for a month or so now. He suddenly went blind, and was diagnosed with a rare disease known as IMR.  Randi told us how she and Howard took Simon to Iowa State [...]

Year End Musings

Tomorrow we come to the end of another year. Today will be my last opportunity to speak with you in 2010, and all I can say to this year is Good Riddance. The year began with a double whammy in January.  The Supreme Court overturned democracy with their despicable ruling in Citizens United v. FEC, and opened the floodgates for corporate money to control elections.  To add insult to injury, later that very same day, Air America radio shut down for good, leaving me among the millions of un- or under-employed, and leaving America with far fewer liberal voices on [...]
