#SNLTurns40 – Sunday Night Live! *Live* Blogging Here @ Radio or Not!!

As promised, we are here to enjoy the last day of VH1's Saturday Night Live #SNLClassic Rewind and count down to tonight's 40th birthday extravaganza LIVE on NBC. No Brian Williams appearances are expected, but he's about the only legendary face from 30 Rock that hasn't been somehow involved in planning and producing this celebration as they take a well-earned bow. VH1 Classic is in the final six episodes that have counted backward from last season to 1975 … Richard Pryor and Chevy Chase are on in the background right now, at 4 EST. You can practically hear the rolling [...]

Homegrown Female Genital Mutilation In the U.S. Skyrockets

This is a number that should induce massive gender-neutral outrage. According to draft statistics in a CDC study released to The Guardian and offered at Raw Story for our communal horror, the reported amount of women and girls mutilated and [surviving] victims of FGM in America has shot up from 168,000 to 513,000. The population of my native state of Vermont is less than that without the seasonal flocks of second-homers. From the article, an excerpt on why the timing is so meaningful. And the facts so in need of noting and acting on. Post outrage. New figures [...]

VH1 Doing 19 Day SNL Marathon #WeAreNotWorthy!

Four hundred and thirty three hours of straight Saturday Night Live. If you live in Colorado or Oregon, this one might call for what my generation called a Doobie. For riveting convo with info on that topic catch or revisit Nicole's Friday Weed and Music show here at Radio or Not featuring old pal and activist Bobby Tuna. Image, NBC   This is the full Saturday Night Live catalogue from now back to its divine conception and delivery in 1975 and relatively accessible on VH1 Classic. Yours truly was a high school Freshman with one primitive tee vee [...]

Pachyderms Lumber Into Line For the ‘Free’ GOP Gold

Cartoon via TruthDig.com   Quantity versus quality? What a waste of ill-gotten USD. For a 'political party' that publicly disdains Free Stuff (like basic nutrition and shelter for the folk they happily let languish in poverty and Social Security earned by those who worked two or three jobs to get their families by), Republican presidential candidates are lining up for campaign lucre with vulgar dispatch. And in vomitus variety and number. It appears that the loudest dog whistle of all for the Right Wing, is the one that alerts them to bags and bags of available campaign cash [...]

Charlie Hebdo Must Live On

Image courtesy Cagle Cartoons   The freedom to say outrageous things is one of the most endearing tenets of true democracy. Witness a fiery fellow known as Thomas Paine. A couple of brash Democratic Nations were born by and of the rape and oppression of a monied class who had to control every piece of information, whisper and loyalty in order to continue their reign: these United States and the ballsy Rèpublique of la France. Both countries produce and value satirists, that rare breed who strive long and hard to share their truth -- and keep us citizens [...]

Pricque o’the Week: Rudy Giuliani

NBC's Red Meat the Press host Chuck Todd lost complete control of last Sunday's show (The Ladies at The View would've cross talked less) and inadvertently got some highly useful intel out to the snarking viewer. On this guy: Rudy noun, verb, 9/11 Giuliani. I'd be hard-pressed to be as professional as Professor Dyson -- who stayed excruciatingly calm in the face of this deeply offensive display of Rudy cray cray. Which would somehow make Todd's ineptitude So much more noticeable. The Mayoral Insolence carried on, and framed the melee perfectly. Video from NBC News. See?!? Now for the juicy [...]

Pig Castrator Joni Ernst Lost Key Staffer to Iowa DUI Wiggle

Oh, those self-righteous, sin-lovin' GOPpers … how grand it is when they get caught with their trousers down. Or a prized Ernst staffer mows down a street sign while sporting twice the legal hooch limit -- then baldly denies even being the driver to the Urbandale Iowa Police Occifer. Then, unchastened, she rinses and repeats the misdemeanor less than a month later. What makes the first of two drunken incidents uber-interesting is actually the genius, if less than by protocol, method the Trooper employed to get a few words of actual Truth out of a Republican; particularly one who spins [...]

The Bernie Beat @ Radio or Not

With gratitude to the inspirational Gliberal Goddesses and chorale of awesome members of The Thundering Herd in Nicole's rocking Live Chat Room this week, we happily present the first of a weekly-ish post and thread dedicated to Vermont's Progressive pride and joy ... Mssr. Bernie Sanders. Or as we local yokels fondly think of him, our Rumpled Savior -- in the Clueless, Useless, God-Damned United States Senate, in the eye of the Great Swamp -- and, depending on how the Santa-Hillary Winds blow, taking his spot upon the 2016 primary bench on our side of the aisle and  right [...]

Artful Sidebar: Photographer Margaret Bourke-White

The photographer at work.   The camera is a remarkable instrument. Saturate yourself with your subject and the camera will all but take you by the hand. ~ Margaret Bourke-White Few American pioneers of photography or photojournalism can lay claim to the panache or the professional legacy of the dauntless, daring Margaret Bourke-White ... particularly few women have a prayer of doing so. Many artists adventure, yet a scant handful participate in history. Over the wide-ranging course of her career, Margaret was in turn torpedoed in the Mediterranean, strafed by the Luftwaffe, stranded on a remote Arctic island, [...]
