7-20-16 Biopsy Day

I won't have a new show today. I'll be getting a biopsy of that mass in my left lung. I'll be back tomorrow... In the meantime, I put together a true "Best of" show: From 6-16-14, what will undoubtedly be my final interview ever with Gen. Wesley Clark. I had liked and respected him, until he let his true colors show during this surprising interview. From 5-7-08, my one and only interview with Bill Maher. I both made him laugh and chastised him for making fun of Restless Leg Syndrome. From 4-26-07, a conversation with Norman Lear, who turns [...]

3-24-15 Nicole Sandler Show – Strange Political Bedfellows

Nicole Sandler welcomes Van Jones back to the show to talk about his latest endeavor, cutting prison population by 50% in 10 years. He's partnering with some you wouldn't expect. We talk about all of it on today's show. In the second hour, Nicole had to run out to an appointment, so from her archives we hear a 2007 interview with Norman Lear, and her 2008 conversation with Bill Maher!

The Bernie Beat @ Radio or Not

With gratitude to the inspirational Gliberal Goddesses and chorale of awesome members of The Thundering Herd in Nicole's rocking Live Chat Room this week, we happily present the first of a weekly-ish post and thread dedicated to Vermont's Progressive pride and joy ... Mssr. Bernie Sanders. Or as we local yokels fondly think of him, our Rumpled Savior -- in the Clueless, Useless, God-Damned United States Senate, in the eye of the Great Swamp -- and, depending on how the Santa-Hillary Winds blow, taking his spot upon the 2016 primary bench on our side of the aisle and  right [...]

Religion and Politics Monday

Today we did what you're not supposed to do in polite company: talk religion and politics. Then again, I never said we were polite around here. We began with religion, courtesy of Bill Maher, Sam Harris and Ben Affleck  with a little Michael Steele and Nicholas Krisof thrown in for good sense ...   Although I agree with most of what Affleck said, he needs to learn to shut up once in a while and let others speak. Religious scholar Reza Aslan took issue with Maher's prior Islamophobic rants... Although Upworthy cited lots of sources that back up Azlan's [...]

Fools on the Hill

The fools were out in force this weekend. From Lindsey Graham having a bit of a temper tantrum on Faux News... Yes, he really did whine, Apparently nobody's been listening to what Senator McCain and I have been saying for the last three years. Sadly Linds, we've been hearing you, non stop, advocating for US conquering the world with our military might! It's hard to ignore when you're on the TV every friggen day. We heard your pal Grampy McCain too... he told us just yesterday that he knows how to vet these Syrian "moderates" because he "knows them." He [...]

Music Can Soothe the Savage Beast

It can.. I know that music certainly helps me when I'm feeling off. After hearing about a murder trial that some misguided members of the media decided to call the "Loud Music Trial" (instead of the Jordan Davis murderer trial), I decided to turn the spotlight on how music is helping raise money for some truly progressive candidates. The Blue America PAC just wrapped up a truly special fundraiser for Congressman Alan Grayson.  Grayon's favorite artist is Joni Mitchell (click through for my print interview with her from a few years back), so all who donated to his campaign through [...]

The Day Before the Day Before Thanksgiving

It's Tuesday, the day before the day before Thanksgiving, and today I'm very thankful that I won't be traveling very far.  The weather is lousy, flights are being cancelled left and right, the roads will be a mess. Yes, for once I'm thankful that I'll be here in FloriDUH. Actually, I will be on the road for about an hour in each direction tomorrow afternoon, heading up to West Palm Beach to Randi Rhodes' studio to guest host her show, but more about that tomorrow... This morning, I spent the first hour of the show talking about some news stories [...]

Monday Morning – The Nicole Sandler Show

It's Monday, so that means we get to re-live some of the high and low points from yesterday's Talking Head shows with Crooks & Liars' Nicole Belle.  It's a weekly segment we call "Fools on the Hill."  Here's what we'll hit on today, with links to all the clips, and Nicole's descriptions of them: We’re six weeks away from the midterm elections and the media is in full swing determining the narratives that are going to take us through the elections.  It appears that the media wants us to be wildly dissatisfied with Obama and associate his policies with that [...]

Warren, O’Donnell and Pence… Oh My!

So much has happened since we last spoke on Thursday... President Obama officially named Elizabeth Warren as the person to set up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau -- though not necessarily as the one to run it.  Is he hedging his bets, or just being spineless yet again?  John Nichols of The Nation writes "There Will Be 'Hell to Pay' If Elizabeth Warren Doesn't Have Real Power." The Hill reports that Mike Pence was the best  that the attendees of the "Values Voters" summit could come up with for a 2012 Presidential nominee. And it's illegal to build sand castles [...]
