#RANpaul, #WarOnWhites & More GOP Insanity

I don't know which on is more offensive - Congressman Steve King's comments to the DREAMers who dared question him about his desire to deport them, or Senator Rand (Ran) Paul's dine and dash upon hearing them identify themselves as DREAMers! I began the show with the whole video, embedded below for your convenience, and remind you why DREAM Action Coalition co-director Erika Andiola and fellow DREAMer Cesar Vargas wanted to talk with him in the first place. You'll remember that, in a Newsmax interview in July of 2013, Steve King likened DREAMers to drug smugglers with calves the size of [...]

Is It 2014 Yet?

Once again, my birthday falls on election day. I know I'm dating myself, but I voted in my first presidential election on November 4, 1980 - my 21st birthday.  Exactly one year earlier, Nov. 4, 1979, just 10 days after losing my mother, a group of hostages was taken in the American Embassy in Iran. I voted for Jimmy Carter, but Ronald Reagan was elected.  So much for a birthday present. The next time a presidential election fell on my birthday was in 2008.  On my 49th birthday,  Barack Obama was elected president. 2014 is a mid-term election, but I'd [...]

“We’re Not Asking America To Go To War”

Those words were just said by Secretary of State John Kerry during his opening statement before the House Foreign Affairs Committee's hearing on the Authorization for Use of Military Force in Syria.  I guess that depends what his definition of "is" is.  To me, firing multiple cruise missiles at another nation is, indeed, war. And as the members of Code Pink are demonstrating in the screen grab above, we'll all have blood on our hands too.  As my mother always tried to impress upon me, "Two wrongs do not make a right." This morning, I spoke about yesterday's Senate [...]

Because Everything is Better With Music

Music and Politics- my two areas of passion. And sometimes they come together. It was a little of both this morning on the show. Rand Paul delivered an absolutely absurd speech yesterday at Howard University.  Alternet's Adele Stan who graciously joined in on today's show to give her eyewitness account, wrote about it in a piece called "Rand Paul Explains Black History to Black People." Julianna Forlano just returned from the National Conference for Media Reform, and told us about it, whistleblowers, lack of privacy and more this morning, plus weighed in on the possibility of Anthony Weiner jumping back [...]

Droning On and On

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul filibusters the nomination of John Brennan to head the CIA. AP photo *** Today's ustream recording stopped after 38 minutes.  So, if you like to watch instead of listen, click the read more link below to watch the YouTube recording***  Rand Paul droned on for almost 13 hours yesterday, creating great political theater and making heads explode - on both the left and the right!  By criticizing the Obama administration's drone policy under the guise of a filibuster of the Brennan confirmation to head the CIA, Paul angered the Republicans who love the drones [...]

Six Days and Counting…

Election day is less than a week off, and the times they are a-changing.  If we really want to head off the corporatocracy that's already in place, it's more important than ever to get out and vote! With six days left, my conversation with Howie Klein of DownWithTyranny and the Blue America PAC was more important than ever. We discussed the role of Blue Dogs in the House and how we'd probably be better off without most of them (yet how the DCCC keeps funneling money into their campaigns, but not to those of progressives who stand a chance of [...]

When Politics Turns Ugly

That's what it looks like. Lauren Valle was trying to present Rand Paul with the "Republicorp Employee of the Month Award" as he was getting out of his car last night to enter the studios of Kentucky Education Television for the debate with Jack Conway.  Rand Paul's thugs tackled her and stomped on her shoulders and head.  See the video for yourself... What's even uglier are some of the comments on this right wing blog, who defend the violence! A quick shout out to KagroX, who this morning tweeted "Freedom of Speech for Juan Williams. Oh, hold on, I have [...]
