The Undecided

Podcast: Play in new window I'd recently been pondering the "how could anyone be undecided" question as to which presidential candidate to vote for.  Seriously. If you can't decide between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, you're really not paying attention. So, imagine my surprise when Bill Maher pondered the same stupidity on Real Time Friday night! And then SNL tackled the question on Saturday! Great minds, and all that...  But at least one listener took issue with the general consensus that if you're undecided you're one of the dreaded Low Information Voters.  (Except that I had to spell out [...]

Teachers & NFL Players with Principles!

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120910__Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Teachers_and_More.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window For the first time in 25 years, Chicago's teachers are on strike. Good for them.  As the mother of an eighth-grader who pulled her out of a supposedly good public school in Florida because their cookie-cutter teaching philosophy doesn't work on her, I wish teachers were given the proper resources with which to do their jobs. In Chicago, however, they aren't.  They are dealing with overcrowded (and over heated) classrooms and are now being told their pay will be based on standardized testing that has nothing to do with [...]

Like a Hurricane

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120823_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Like_a_Hurricane.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window This is the most recent image coming from the National Weather Service of the Five-Day track and "cone of uncertainty" for Isaac, still a Tropical Storm, but expected to be at hurricane strength when it passes by Tampa late Monday into early Tuesday. As amused as I might be by the idea of the gathering of horrific Republicans getting washed out a bit, I don't wish a devastating hurricane on anyone.   And as the path takes it right over Haiti, I'm sickened for the people there. This morning [...]

Legitimizing Stupidity

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120820_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_legitimate.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   Just when you thought you'd seen it all, another teabagger opens its mouth.   Actually, we shouldn't be surprised that this asshattery came from Todd Akin.  He was one of the many co-sponsors of 2011's assinine “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” a bill which, among other things, introduced the country to the bizarre term “forcible rape".  And yes, Paul Ryan was a co-sponsor too. Actually, Paul Ryan has been at the forefront of a lot of anti-woman legislation, including a "Personhood" bill that would declare life begins at [...]

Another Primary Day, Another Shooting

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120814_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-another_primary_another_shooting.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   These days, it seems as if the shootings are happening as often as primaries.  Yesterday another crazy person with a gun killed two people and wounded a few others before he was shot dead.  And today we have primary elections in Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Connecticut.  Wouldn't it be nice if one of our elected officials had the balls to do something to get the guns out of the hands of murderers? Not much time for a lengthy post today, as I just got home from guest hosting [...]

Pushing Grandma From the Train.. or Off the Cliff

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120813_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Romney-Ryan.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   I must admit, that was my first thought when I heard the news that Mitt Romney had tapped Paul "kill Medicare" Ryan as his running mate.  Seriously. The guy who wants to destroy Medicare as we know it? That'll help Mitt in Florida (not). As I attempted to ask the guy who is supposed to be representing me in Congress, "Give me the name of the for-profit insurance company who'll sell a policy to an 85-year old with high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity."  It doesn't exist.  And [...]

Heroes and Villains

This morning on the show, I spoke with a couple of heroes and about a couple of villains. Let's begin with the good guys.  His schedulers must have screwed up, but Congressman Raul Grijalva did call in near the end of the first hour of the show.  Better late than never! Grijalva is the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus; they released their Budget 4 All to zero fanfare or media attention.  But it demands a look as, once again, it makes sense and is the best thing out there! In the second hour, I was joined by another of [...]

Monday, Monday (part deux)

Usually when I guest host the Randi Rhodes Show, I do it from my own home studio.  Today, there was a staffing issue, so they asked if I'd drive up to her studio in West Palm Beach.  Fifty-two miles (and 1/4 tank of gas) later, I was there.  And even after already doing two hours of my own show, there was still plenty to talk about, without repeating anything... Congressman Raul Grijalva, co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus was my first guest.  He joined me to talk about The People's Budget, which was introduced by the CPC, and is exactly [...]

Monday, Monday – part one

It's a double shot Monday... Midway through this morning's show, I got an email from Randi Rhodes' producer asking if I'd be able to fill in for her today.  So now, at 7:30 pm, I'm finally sitting down to write today's post. Needless to say, it was a busy day!  Here's part one: Late yesterday, we were treated to more of our nation's unflattering secrets, courtesy of WikiLeaks.  This time, the leaks deal with one of our least attractive features - Guantanamo Bay.  To fill us in on what he was able to glean from the files as of this [...]
