The Nicole Sandler Show is live this week, recapping some of the big news stories of the year. Today, we focus on the media, joined by media strategist and trainer Joel Silberman. Plus columnist Brent Budowsky on the Sanders phenomena from the media blackout to why he could win.
Today, the Senate will again vote to open debate on Fast Track for the TPP, after the Dems cut a deal yesterday. Nicole discusses that development with The Hill columnist Brent Budowsky. Plus Down with Tyranny/Blue America's Howie Klein weighs in on the problems with Democrats
Senator Ted Cruz, who missed his calling as a snake oil salesman, spent the last 22 hours showboating. But as CSPAN pointed out on the screen numerous times during the long speech, it was not technically a filibuster! "This is technically not a filibuster since Sen. Cruz is not delaying action on a bill. He must stop speaking before the Senate votes on Wednesday." Even the reliably Republican-leaning Politico admitted as much: Despite his Ironman stand on the floor of the upper chamber, Cruz could not stop a Senate already in motion from eventually returning a clean continuing resolution to [...]
Tomorrow we come to the end of another year. Today will be my last opportunity to speak with you in 2010, and all I can say to this year is Good Riddance. The year began with a double whammy in January. The Supreme Court overturned democracy with their despicable ruling in Citizens United v. FEC, and opened the floodgates for corporate money to control elections. To add insult to injury, later that very same day, Air America radio shut down for good, leaving me among the millions of un- or under-employed, and leaving America with far fewer liberal voices on [...]
What a show we have for you tonight. Unfortunately, I have no time for the rest of the interviews I taped at Netroots Nation... all the more reason to tune in tomorrow night! Of course, the big story today comes from Arizona, where US District Court Judge Susan Bolton blocked the most controversial sections of SB 1070, which was slated to take effect tomorrow. The law will still go into effect tomorrow, but without the most heinous provisions-- including the sections that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws, and the parts that required immigrants [...]
This should be the top story on every news broadcast, and the number 1 priority for this administration. If they don't stop the oil from spewing up from the floor of the Gulf soon, our entire eco-system will likely be doomed. The Mayans may have really been on to something. I've watched this video a few times today... I certainly didn't want to, as once was more than enough. But I wanted to play it on the video stream tonight, so I watched it again as I tried to figure out how to do that, and then yet again during [...]
The party of No is now the party of hate and intimidation. At least ten Democratic members of the House have been the targets of threats since Sunday's vote on health care reform, with even Sarah Palin getting in on the act. She actually had the audacity to tweet the message "Don't retreat. RELOAD." That message directed her readers to her Facebook page where she posted a map of congressional districts she planned to target, and does so with gun crosshairs! Tonight, I was joined by Christy Harvey of the Center for American Progress and MicCheckRadio.org, who told us about [...]
The first show in our new 6-8pm ET time slot went off with a few hiccups which, I guess, is to be expected. You can watch the video on the video page, or download the audio podcast here.
Let's consider the possibilities. Conventional wisdom says that health care dies with her senatorial bid. Not so fast, my friend. And, honestly, it might work out for the best! To those who are saying that the House would just have to pass the Senate bill as it stands so that they wouldn't need 60 votes in the Senate again, I say it's that kind of thinking that took Single Payer off the table even before dinner was cooking! Let's face it, we were sold out by the same Democrats who promised us change. Instead of change, we got more of [...]
