Gaffe Wars, Netroots and More!

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120611_Nicole_Sandler_Show_.mp3 {/play} Play in new window     By now, most of the gaffe machines have left the race.  I'll certainly miss Rick Perry's "Oops" moments, Michele Bachmann confusing birthdays with death anniversaries and much-loved movie stars with mass murderers, Herman Cain's lack of knowledge of world leaders and pronunciation of their country's names and, of course, Newt's moon colonies, philandering and Tiffany's credit line.  But one thing we'll never be short of during a presidential election year is the gaffe. While I was not paying attention to the news for the past few days, we [...]

Live-and archived- from Netroots Nation 2012

I hope you heard our live broadcasts from Netroots Nation in Providence, RI last week.  If not, better late than never, huh? I arrived in Providence on Wednesday night, and was up bright and early Thursday morning for our first broadcast.  My guests Thursday morning included Sam Seder (Majority Report, Ring of Fire Radio), Absurdity Today's Juliana Forlano, Progressive Voices' Jon Sinton, pundit/author Cliff Schecter, Joanne Bamburger (Pundit Mom), Eric Hensel, who ran for Congress as his corporation - Murray Hill Inc., and now is really running for local office as himself, and lots more!  Listen to the broadcast from [...]

Recall Revolt

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120606_Nicole_Sandler_Show.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   So, what the fuck happened in Wisconsin yesterday? Did big money win the day? Yes, but it's more complicated than that.  People revolted against yet another recall, or so it seems.  Recall exhaustion? That's what the exit polls are saying.  As Jamie Bouie writes (posted by Greg Sargent in WaPo), "On Wisconsin, Conventional Wisdom is Mostly Wrong".  According to exit polls, Walker won 17 percent of Obama supporters in the state, and overall, last night’s electorate favored the president over Mitt Romney by a significant margin, 52 [...]

Change

Today's pre-show music was all about change, and I usually close the show with a clip of Clapton's "Change the World."  In 2008, Barack Obama ran on a theme of Hope & Change.  We can still hope, but are left waiting for the change. Instead of waiting, we can make change...  In the first hour of today's show, we explore a couple of ways. One is to get involved.  Democracy for America grew out of Dean for America and has become a great progressive force for change.  Arshad Hasan, DFA's executive director, is in Miami where he led a training [...]

More From Netroots Nation

The best part of attending Netroots Nation is that I get to talk to so many fascinating people.  I broadcast live from the exhibit hall Thursday morning with a terrific group of guests... and had my tape recorder with me at all times, which came in very handy. Today on the show, I played my interviews with Congresswoman Donna Edwards, Congressman Raul Grijalva, and The Nation's John Nichols. I also played my conversation with Lois Frankel - the second Democratic candidate for congress from Florida's 22nd district, challenging Allen West.  (Yesterday, we heard my interview with the other [...]

Sending Allen West Packing, and Breitbart too

My highest priority in Nov 2012 is making sure Allen West is sent home.  That guy should be in a military brig, and certainly nowhere near a congressional office.  Thankfully, we have two Democrats vying to unseat him.  Last week, at Netroots Nation, I had the opportunity to speak with them both. This morning on the show, I played my interview with Patrick Murphy, a first time candidate for public office.  Tomorrow morning, we'll hear my interview with former West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel. I'll save my comments for after tomorrow's show, and after you've had a [...]

Netroots Nation Postscript

I'm home, still in need of sleep, with lots of stories and interviews from Netroots Nation to share.  I began the process on the show this morning, and will continue for the rest of the week. With so many highlights to spotlight, it's difficult to pick out the best.  But one of my favorite moments was watching my friend Jill Sobule win over the crowd with an original song she wrote for the "Freedom from Fear" awards ceremony.   Stay tuned for a studio recording of the song, bound to be our new NN anthem! Another high point for me [...]

Live from Netroots Nation

It was a great time at Netroots Nation! I'm finally home and able to post the show we did live from the exhibit hall Thursday morning. I'll share more with you on the show tomorrow and the rest of the week.  Stay tuned for my conversations [...]

James O’Keefe “wanted to get at the truth”

I'm in Minneapolis this week for Netroots Nation.  I'll have lots of interviews and observations to share with you when I'm back in the studio Monday morning.  But this one couldn't wait. As you may know, the right wing follows us each year and schedules their "Right Online" conference in the same town at the same time we have Netroots Nation.  This year, their conference is in the hotel many of the NN participants are staying, while our conference is at the Minneapolis Convention Center. When I got back to my hotel this evening, I noticed James "Pimp" O'Keefe sitting [...]

We Don’t Negotiate With Terrorists

I'm so sick of the dysfunction in this country today.  A broken media that accentuates the slimy and salacious in their quest for ratings over news and integrity.  A government so broken that elected officials are more concerned about appeasing their wealthy benefactors than in representing the people they were elected to help. We're setting sail to the place on the map from which no one has ever returned Drawn by the promise of the joker and the fool by the light of the crosses that burned. Drawn by the promise of the women and the lace and [...]
