The TPP and More Monday Madness

At his 2013 State of the Union address, President Obama publicly invoked the Trans Pacific Partnership for the first time, claiming "To boost American exports, support American jobs, and level the playing field in the growing markets of Asia, we intend to complete negotiations on a Trans-Pacific Partnership. And tonight I'm announcing that we will launch talks on a comprehensive Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the European Union, because trade that is fair and free across the Atlantic supports millions of good paying American jobs." When he spoke those words on Feb 12, 2o13, my jaw dropped. We had [...]

Counting Down Till the End of the Year

It's that time of the year again... Randi Rhodes is enjoying some well-earned end of the year vacation time, and I get to enjoy her vacation by guest hosting her show! Jacob Dean and Skeptical Scott of Filter Free Radio will be guest hosting my show on Monday and Tuesday for the next three weeks.  I'll be here Wednesday and Thursday this week, and Thursday the two weeks after that...  and in for Randi each day between now and January 3 with the exception of Christmas and New Years Days. Today on Randi's show, I'll talk with Congressman Alan [...]

What’s New Pussycat?

I always say we need some comic relief on the show - and we didn't have to go very far. In fact, the actual comedy from Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was even better than the comic sendoff of his lunacy from SNL... See for yourself: Via SNL The Real Thing I'll take truth over fiction any day. Although sometimes, the truth just simply sucks. Today, I spoke with my favorite Congressman Alan Grayson about some issues he's been quite candid about: the TPP, Drone strikes in Pakistan, the NSA spying program and the attacks on Glenn Greenwald and other journalists, [...]

A Progressive Path

"The problems we set out to address will not be solved overnight but make no mistake, the people of this city have chosen a progressive path," -- NYC Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio 11/5/14 Following the lead of the people of Los Angeles who elected a progressive Mayor in Eric Garcetti just six months ago, the people of New York handed Bill de Blasio a landslide. Knocking a giant hole in the media's contention that Democrats won't vote in a midterm or off-off year election, in race after race, not just the Democrats - but the PROGRESSIVE Democrats scored victories. From [...]

If the Hood Fits

Wow. the truth hurts, huh? Those teabaggers can dish it out, but it seems they can't take it.  Must be the thin sheets skin. Alan Grayson's email was tame, especially compared with the vile hatred he's received since then.  When I asked what kind of response they've seen, the congressman's office sent me a sampling of some of the emails - which really underscore the fact that Grayson's analogy was spot on. From “Kip”: “Well, I would like to inform you that you are equated to a German Nazi!!! … I hope they drum your sorry a** out the next [...]

Wednesday Women!

Today on my show, I welcomed Sally Kohn, the liberal who often appears on Fox to challenge their craziness.  Her piece, "I was An Obamacare Guinea Pig" is making right wing heads explode.  She'll also join me on Randi's show this afternoon. Susie Madrak of Crooks and Liars joined in to talk about how the Republicans can dish our the slams but can't take them.  Her example was their anger at Congressman Alan Grayson for calling the teabaggers out as less popular than the Klan! I also exposed the GOP as a bunch of pathological liars... I'll continue that discussion later [...]

A Week of Double-Headers

This week, I'll be guest hosting the Randi Rhodes Show in addition to my own show here at RadioOrNot. To any of Randi's fans coming here for info, she's just taking a week off and will be back at her microphone on Monday. I promise! Today, I'm honored to speak with Thom Hartmann.  He'll join me on both shows to talk about his latest project, Last Hours.  The first short video in the series is available at that link, and right here: I hope you'll take the few minutes to watch it, and listen to our discussions today.  I just [...]

Winning: No War, No Summers!

Go figure. We criticized from the left, and we won.  Of course, those who ascribe to "My President, wrong or right" have been out in force, damning all who dare to question their leader.  I guess I view democracy differently.  I believe it means that we all have a voice in our government, which is ostensibly of, by and for the people, and that it's not only our right, but our responsibility to hold our elected officials accountable. So, we spoke out against the administration's admonitions that we must attack Syria because Syria attacked its own people.  And we spoke [...]

War and Peace

If only it were that simple.  It seems as if the Obama administration is telling us that we only have two choices: bomb Syria or do nothing. The Russians are floating another option this morning... diplomacy. Imagine! What a concept! The AP this morning reports "Russia to Push Syria To Put Chemical Weapons Under International Control". MOSCOW — In a surprise move, Russia promised Monday to push its ally Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control and then dismantle them quickly to avert U.S. strikes. The announcement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov came a few hours after U.S. [...]
