The Miami Book Fair was in town last week. It's one of my favorite annual South Florida events because there's an influx of smart people! This year, I got to speak with a bunch of the authors before the descended on the humid Miami-Dade College campus downtown. Today being Thanksgiving, I thought I'd leave politics behind today and feature two wonderful interviews. Actress turned activist and author Jane Alexander wrote about another of her passions in the book Wild Things, Wild Places: Adventurous Tales of Wildlife and Conservation on Planet Earth. Brad Meltzer is also known to many for his [...]
Nicole Sandler shares five of her interviews with Senator Bernie Sanders from 2010-2015- a Bernie Marathon for Thanksgiving.
It's days like this that we have to dig down deep to count our blessings, so we will.. after talking FloriDUH with Deborah Newell Tornello, chatting with the other Democratic candidate in the Florida senate primary, Pam Keith, and recounting the horrible news of recent days. But tomorrow's Thanksgiving, and there's a law that says we have to be grateful for something, right?
Another snark-filled guest post by the one, the only Will Durst: THANKSGIVING 2014 You got to love Thanksgiving. You do. It’s the law. And be honest; doesn’t a little tryptophan poisoning amongst family and friends sound pretty comforting right about now? What with Ebola infested ISIS members slithering across the border carrying photos of Bill Cosby ogling Kim Kardashian’s butt? Besides, this holiday isn’t about greasing the wheels of capitalism with the fire hose of consumer debt like that other one just down the road. This one is about gluttony. Pure and simple. And the only attendant religiosity is praying the [...]
Nicole kicks off Thanksgiving week with a look at the news- from the fight over immigration reform to the wait for a Grand Jury decision from Ferguson. Howie Klein joins in to talk about alternatives to Hillary Clinton, and Vice News' Jason Leopold reports on Ferguson, the CIA's torture report and the FCC's cozy relationship with the industry they're supposed to be regulating.
It's a holiday that none of us will ever see again, as Thanksgiving and Hanukkah won't arrive on the same date again for another 78,000 years or so. So, let's celebrate! On the show, I talked about a few things for which I am very thankful. As I adopted my daughter Alison 14 years ago this month, and November is National Adoption Month, I once again welcomed my friend Robert Lamarche to the program. We first met seven years ago when he contacted my show to ask if I'd consider a segment on adoptions... and we've talked every [...]
It's Tuesday, the day before the day before Thanksgiving, and today I'm very thankful that I won't be traveling very far. The weather is lousy, flights are being cancelled left and right, the roads will be a mess. Yes, for once I'm thankful that I'll be here in FloriDUH. Actually, I will be on the road for about an hour in each direction tomorrow afternoon, heading up to West Palm Beach to Randi Rhodes' studio to guest host her show, but more about that tomorrow... This morning, I spent the first hour of the show talking about some news stories [...]
