They Got a Thing Going On

That infographic should explain the whole sordid affair, or not.  Seriously, I haven't delved into it until this point because, as salacious and intriguing as it is, it's really none of our business.  Of course, hate wing talk radio would have you believe that the whole thing is tied into Benghazi because, well, you know, Obama. In the meantime, I'm waiting for the Lifetime movie to come out...  The funny thing is that truth is, indeed, stranger than fiction because if anyone had floated a screenplay as implausible as this, they'd be laughed out of the industry! Meanwhile, this morning Luke [...]

The Scariest Halloween Ever

It's Halloween, so I thought I'd assemble some really scary things for you to think about today (and leading up to election day on Tuesday). 1. In the wake of Sandy, let's remember Mitt Romney's big laugh line during his RNC speech: "President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans...and to heal the planet...." He went on to say that it's immoral for the United States to take out loans to help fellow Americans. Really? I'd say it's immoral not to do anything and everything possible to help those in need, especially after a disaster [...]

Double Header Today – I’m in for Thom Hartmann this Afternoon

I'll be filling in for Thom Hartmann for the rest of the week, so it's a busy one... On my show this  morning, I'll chat with Media Trainer Joel Silberman about last week's presidential debate and tomorrow night's VP debate. We'll find out what what went wrong on Wednesday night, and get some advice for Joe Biden.  Amy Simon of She's History will weigh in with some fabulous female facts. And John Amato of Crooks & Liars will weigh in on the election and how the media is now fixated on Twitter! Check in later for info about topics on [...]

Pre-Bate

Tonight, the long-awaited first debate between the two contenders for the presidency in 2012 is here. I fear it will be a giant let-down.  As much as I'd like for Mitt Romeny to "just be Mitt", he'll really just recite the answers that have been scripted for him on the subjects the candidates have been given in advance. Yesterday, I guest hosted the Randi Rhodes Show (thanks, Randi!), and played some of the mock-debate scene from HBO's The Newsroom.  If you haven't yet seen it, I encourage you to watch, as it's the only time you'll see any such debate [...]

Women’s Equality Day 2012 – From Anne Hutchinson to Pussy Riot

A guest post by Amy Simon of She's History! The 2012 USA Women’s Olympic Teams broke records, kicked butt and made headlines.  Shannon Eastin became the National Football League’s First Female Line Judge and refereed her first game in San Diego, and Tammy S. Smith became the Army’s first openly gay brigadier general.  The All-Male Augusta National Gold Club finally let the gals in, inviting Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and business executive Darla Moore. Diana Nyad made her fourth attempt swimming from Cuba to Florida and was forced to abandon her thirty-five year old dream, one day shy [...]

Like a Hurricane

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120823_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Like_a_Hurricane.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window This is the most recent image coming from the National Weather Service of the Five-Day track and "cone of uncertainty" for Isaac, still a Tropical Storm, but expected to be at hurricane strength when it passes by Tampa late Monday into early Tuesday. As amused as I might be by the idea of the gathering of horrific Republicans getting washed out a bit, I don't wish a devastating hurricane on anyone.   And as the path takes it right over Haiti, I'm sickened for the people there. This morning [...]

It’s Springtime in America

The Occupy Wall Street movement began in the fall. But with spring blossoming yesterday, it seems certain that the uprising will bloom in bigger ways. Alison Kilkenny is a NYC based reporter, covering the movement for In These Times and The Nation, as well as Citizen Radio, which she co-hosts with her brilliantly funny husband, Jamie Kilstein.  She joins us in the first hour today to bring us up to date on #OWS at six months. It's still March - which means it's Women's History Month.  Time for a visit from my dear friend Amy Simon, cultural HERstorian and writer& [...]

It’s International Women’s Day. Do You Know Where Your ERA Is?

March 22 will mark 40 years since Congress ratified the Equal Rights Amendment. Unfortunately, we fell three states short of the number required to amend the Constitution to insure that no one in this country would or could be discriminated against due to their sex.  And here we are in 2012 with a war being waged by the Republican party against women. Since today is International Women's Day, I invited Roberta Francis - Chair of the ERA task force of the National Council of Women's Organizations - on the show to bring us op to day.  Although you likely haven't [...]
