Tomorrow

Tomorrow is April 15. It's s double-whammy this year. Not only is it tax filing day, but it's also the first anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing. It's easy to understand why I just want to crawl back in bed and pull the covers over my head. This year, I got my taxes done early. Unfortunately, I owe the IRS a lot of money. The reason why is might surprise you. Due to financial hardship, I had to take my savings out of my IRA. Obviously, I saved that money fully intending to use it after I retired. Unfortunately, life [...]

Fast Food Forward Thursday

Something strange and wonderful is happening today in New York City.  Workers who toil for slave wages at fast food restaurants around the city are staging a one-day strike to raise awareness of the conditions under which they toil.  It's all under the umbrella of Fast Food Forward. The website, on which you can sign up to stand in solidarity with these underpaid workers, has some great information: We can't survive on $7.25! In America, people who work hard should be able to afford basic necessities like groceries, rent, childcare and transportation. While fast food corporations reap the benefits of [...]

The Scariest Halloween Ever

It's Halloween, so I thought I'd assemble some really scary things for you to think about today (and leading up to election day on Tuesday). 1. In the wake of Sandy, let's remember Mitt Romney's big laugh line during his RNC speech: "President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans...and to heal the planet...." He went on to say that it's immoral for the United States to take out loans to help fellow Americans. Really? I'd say it's immoral not to do anything and everything possible to help those in need, especially after a disaster [...]

Optimism – Pessimism

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120523_Nicole_Sandler_Show.mp3{/play} Podcast: Play in new window At the start of today's show, I was sounding like the eternal optimist.  I said that my faith in humankind has been restored due to the amazing response I've gotten from my plea for help with funds to get my daughter into a program this summer that she truly needs. But  by the end of the program, after talking with Jesse LaGreca, best known for his schooling of a Fox producer at OWS' Zuccotti Park - though everyone should read his MinistryofTruth blog at Daily Kos, and WhoWhatWhy.com's Russ Baker, [...]

A Palestinan & a Jew Do a Radio Show

I think if the world would let us do it, Maysoon Zayid and I could fix our problems.  She joined me today on the show to have some fun, and vent! Follow her on twitter, and tell her to start doing a show Friday mornings here at  Radio or Not! We started the show with a call to activist Austin Guest - a veteran of Occupy Wall Street - who was featured in this video, and is one of the organizers of today's #M15 F the Banks action: We then turned to a topic discussed quite a bit here, [...]

Praising the President

Kudos to President Obama for doing the right thing yesterday and using recess appointments to put Richard Cordray at the helm of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and get three others on the National Labor Relations Board.  Neither of these agencies would be able to function without those appointments, so what he did was truly in the best interests of the nation. Today, I also professed my respect and admiration for the Supreme Court of Montana who upheld the state's law banning corporate campaign contributions - in direct opposition to the SCOTUS ruling in Citizens United.  And big congratulations and [...]
