Democracy in Action

The majority of people in this country think election day is on a Tuesday in November.  But the uneducated, uninformed masses don't understand primaries, recalls and special elections.  On those fronts, today is a biggie! So - we the informed - must work overtime to get out the vote. Today is the day that Wisconsin can send the thieving, scheming, union-busting Scott Walker packing and put Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett into the governor's office to being undoing Walker's damage.  Also at stake are a few State [...]

Wearing a Uniform Makes You a Soldier, Not a Hero

What About Wisconsin?

Listen to this episode: {play} http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120524_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_What_About_Wisconsin.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window Election Day in Wisconsin is less than two weeks ago. Early voting is underway. And the Democratic Party is nowhere in sight.  The DNC issued a tepid response to the recent outcry of their lack of monetary support by stating that Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz would head to Wisconsin "by the end of the month" to hold a fundraiser.  From what I hear, they need money, not a visit from Debbie! After attempting to call the DNC offices earlier this week (I got no answer), I sent an email [...]

Optimism – Pessimism

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120523_Nicole_Sandler_Show.mp3{/play} Podcast: Play in new window At the start of today's show, I was sounding like the eternal optimist.  I said that my faith in humankind has been restored due to the amazing response I've gotten from my plea for help with funds to get my daughter into a program this summer that she truly needs. But  by the end of the program, after talking with Jesse LaGreca, best known for his schooling of a Fox producer at OWS' Zuccotti Park - though everyone should read his MinistryofTruth blog at Daily Kos, and WhoWhatWhy.com's Russ Baker, [...]

Keep On Trying

Some people might be discouraged by the results from the Wisconsin recall elections last night.  But today I'm taking the optimistic route. The Democrats picked up two senate seats; the people of Wisconsin recalled two Republican state senators, truly changing the balance of power, and fighting back against the big corporate dollars and the heinous Citizens United Supreme Court ruling. Of course, the returns came in with a bit of controversy.  What else would you expect from the county that brought us 14,000 extra votes "discovered" on the pc of the supervisor of elections days after the last Supreme [...]

Power to the People

History is being made today in Wisconsin.  Whether or not the Democrats are successful in recalling enough Republicans to take back control of the Wisconsin state Senate, the fact that today's votes are happening is a moment that we should all cherish. It's people power.  And the government here in the US is supposed to be of, for and by the people.  It's Democracy in action! Even though the corporate media isn't reporting on it, more than 45,000 Verizon workers are on strike! I believe we are at a seminal moment for our generation.  We can either embrace the spirit [...]

The Post-Friday Budgetary Blues

As the new week begins, I'm still reeling from the events that transpired on Friday. As the country was waiting anxiously to see how the budget standoff would end Friday night, I was sitting in an attorney's office, signing away my rights to my house.  The house that my father bought after my mother died, where he lived his final dozen or so years in misery as a quadriplegic, is no longer my burdon. I bought my sister out of her share of the house after my father died ... at the height of the market.  The house that my [...]

This is What Democracy Looks Like

You can find it online, but not on your TV.  As Bruce Springsteen said, "57 channels and nothing on" -- except now it's 557 channels, and still no coverage of the huge protests that went on this weekend in Wisconsin and other cities here in the US.  But I have a feeling if this was an astroturf rally comprised of people sporting teabags and misspelled hate filled signs, we'd be inundated with made-up details. Thank God for the interwebs.  The above picture came courtesy of the Political Carnival.  Live streaming of the massive protests was provided by The Uptake.  (An [...]

It’s a Mad World

The Wisconsin State Senate breaks laws to break the unions and the US House of Representatives goes on an Islamic witch hunt. It's a mad world. A few tweets that underscore my point: "The Republican Party has come for my job, my union, my wife's uterus, my art and my radio station." FL is in trouble. We'll be a Mariana Island dotted with sweatshops & tent revivals b4 Rick Scott & Company are done. Per union leader Ed Sadlowski "Cops just dragged out a 15 year old girl from Assembly Chamber. She is totally distraught." Gov. Walker reminds you that [...]
