My old pal Jack Rice joined me on today's show. Since Jack is not only an attorney and journalist, but also spent some time in the field for the CIA, I thought he'd be the perfect guest to comment on the insanity that is Donald Trump. As I expected, he offered some great insight. But the one thing that really came crystal clear for me is the level of D'ump's insecurities. The fact that he had to go on and on about the size of the crowd at the inauguration (reports have surfaced that he called the director of the [...]
Nicole talks about the Obama presidency as a parallel to her relationship/marriage, as the outgoing president holds his final press conference before leaving office on Friday. In case you missed it to listen to today's show, here you go. The presser begins at around the 45 minutes mark Then Marcy Wheeler of Emptywheel joins in to talk Russians, hacking, the intelligence community, Chelsea Manning, Snowden, Assange and more..
I was fortunate enough to be able to interview a number of authors at this year's Miami Book Fair, so I thought I'd take advantage of Thanksgiving and the day after to share some of them with you. Today, the guy who probably could have predicted the outcome of our presidential election better than most others, as Ari Berman has been telling us about the whittling away and destruction of the Voting Rights Act for years with his book, Give Us the Ballot: The Modern Struggle for Voting Rights in America. Wesley Lowery was Tweeting from a McDonald's in Ferguson, MO, [...]
Today, I speak with Denis Campbell, editor of UK Progressive and co-host of the Three Muckrakers podcast regarding our respective nations' bouts with insanity!
I'm back today for my final two-hour show for a while. Beginning Monday, I'll do one hour a day, from 3-4pm Eastern until I go in for surgery. I'll keep you posted on that... Today, we had no choice but to confront the ugly American, thanks to those Naked Trumps that appeared in five cities yesterday! In addition to Donald's naked little Donnie, there were other ugly Americans to talk about -- Paul Manafort and Ryan Lochte. The man who could (and should) unseat Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Tim Canova, checks in during the final stretch toward election day on August 30. And in the second hour, [...]
It was NEVER about Bernie; it was about his ideas. But today, the vitriol from some of his "supporters" is ugly and stinging. Take, for example, this message I received from a now-former listener. I am very sad and angry knowing one of my heroes is just like all the rest. I foolishly believed that Bernie Sanders was someone I could trust and believe in only to find he's no different then any other politician. Bernie is dead to me as is his movement and any policy or person he puts forward for office in the future. I had intended [...]
We awoke to an awful déjà vu this morning. Another black man was killed by cops in a show of excessive, brutal police force. Alton Sterling, a 37-year old father of five, was selling CDs in front of a convenience store, something he did regularly to help support his family. Someone called the cops on him, and now Alton Sterling is dead. We are talking about it because someone captured the shooting on video. And now a second video has surfaced. And tomorrow, the trial begins for the most senior of the cops who was involved in the wild [...]
I returned to the air today after being out most of last week with a nasty case of bronchitis and a sinus infection too. And boy did I pick a hell of a week to get sick! Today, I did my best to recap the events of the past week, and focus in on two big stories. My old colleague Jim DeFede, now an investigative reporter at Miami's CBS4 and host of Facing South Florida with Jim DeFede tore down the curtain around Congressman and would-be senator Patrick Murphy with a mind-blowing story about the fake resume Murphy has been touting, [...]
Nicole Sandler finishes off the week with a look at our choices for president in 2016. Blogger and filmmaker Frank Huguenard, who stirred up controversy with a quickly-deleted HuffPost post last week joins us in hour one; Dave Johnson, fresh from a Bernie rally and last night's anti-Trump rally in San Jose, joins in during hour two.
Today is the day your 2015 income taxes are due. It's a good day to compare and contrast the candidates to see how your dollars would be spent in their respective administrations. Today, Joel Silberman returns as he votes in NY tomorrow. And Cliff Schecter sets the record straight on John Kasich, the governor of his home state, and I coin a new term, Kasichsplaining
