“Shocking” discovery: Benzene in CA fracking waste water 700x federal standard

I've written about fracking a lot. Click here to see our previous posts at RoN. You can also scroll through these rather alarming  and extensive archives from my old stomping grounds at The Political Carnival. Take this oldie but goodie for example: Fracking is linked to methane risks: “When methane concentrations are that high, water can bubble like champagne.” Salud!  Today's Los Angeles Times has a California Section front pager that once again illustrates how Big Greedy Oil and Big Greedy Gashats are utterly devoid of foresight, unless, of course, it pertains to their own enormous wallets. Check this out: Data culled from the first [...]

Radio or Not Pricque o’ the Week

U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter, Republican Patriot from California, has no apparent Intelligence. In either lingual case. You see, according to the good and mad Representative, ISIL is now hopping willy nilly over the (sanz enough prophylactic measures for the Lipton Brigade and the lingering, desperate GOP pursers and hawkers) southern border. Says the news-breaker slash pol who just wants HIS country back, and will apparently ask us to suspend disbelief long enough to incorporate the latest science fiction into his tribe's 'news' cycle. Rachel Maddow chose this juicy bit of balderdash to highlight in Debunktion Junction Wednesday evening, a segment [...]

When is Mr. Corporation “going to prison for the deaths of 8 people?”

True to form, the Los Angeles Times is making it impossible to find something on their website. However, in my morning paper, there was an excellent letter to the editor that I wanted to share, because our voices matter. As it turns out, the author is a Twitter pal of mine, @jonhartmannjazz. Here it is, verbatim: Re "Record fine proposed for PG&E," Business, Sept. 3 Since corporations are people, when is Mr. PG&E going to prison for the deaths of eight people? Jon Hartmann Los Angeles 'Nuff said. Kudos, Jon!

Fracking requires lots of water… from states struggling with drought

I write about fracking a lot (scroll), and for good reason. Did I mention that the Los Angeles Times reported that in Ohio, geologists have found a connection between fracking and earthquakes? Or that oil drilling and fracking are producing radioactive waste? Yet, we haven't heard a peep about Big Oil, Gas, and Fracking possibly killing newborns from those very same "pro-lifers" who hypocritically devote themselves to "saving babies." And let's not forget that fracking is linked to methane risks: “When methane concentrations are that high, water can bubble like champagne.” Salud! Awhile back I wrote Frackers are guzzling water supplies in drought states the way John Boehner [...]

New Beginning

This morning, I was thrilled to make it official and welcome GottaLaff to Radio Or Not! I know, you're thinking, "Laffy has been doing the show on Tuesday mornings with Nicole for years. What's this all about?" (sure you are...). Well, after running The Political Carnival for so long, Laffy needs to take it a little easier. So, from here on out, when she decides to write a post, it'll show up here at Laffy's Place at RoN. Laffy continues with me each Tuesday morning for snark and fun during the second hour of each show, and that tradition [...]

Political Hypocrisy and Other 21st Century Realities

Welcome to the 21st century political reality. Hypocrisy all around. President Obama proved that he can release Gitmo detainees without the approval of Congress after six years of hiding behind their intransigence on the subject. John McCain, who is hailed as a hero only because he was a Prisoner of War in Vietnam (certainly not due to his heroics in war or the way he was captured), originally was all for the prisoner swap to get Berghdahl's release -- that is, until Obama did it. As for all of Bergdahl's former platoon-mates (if that's what you call his fellow soliders) [...]

War, Peace and Politics

"When will they ever learn?"  -- Pete Seeger The answer, sadly, is never. Mankind has waged war since the beginning of time. If it were up to me, world leaders who wanted to send their nations' youth to battle should, instead, meet one another in an arena and fight to the death. Maybe that would end the killing. Back in World War I & II, soldiers returning from the battlefield were described as being "shell shocked". Today it's Post Traumatic Stress. Regardless what you call it, people who experience the madness of war, of watching their fellow soldiers blown to bits [...]

One Small Step for CA, One Giant Leap Toward Ending Prohibition

The state of California made history today! Until today, no U.S. state legislature had ever even considered voting on a measure that would legalize, regulate and tax marijuana. Today, not only did the California Assembly's Public Safety Committee consider it, they voted on and passed A.B. 390! The Marijuana Control, Regulation and Education Act, authored by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) passed the committee by a vote of 4-3, clearing the way for it to move to the Health committee before heading to the Assembly floor for a full vote. This is huge news not only for the pot smokers [...]
