Dog Days

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120705_Nicole_Sandler_Show.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window It's those unbearably hot August days that are usually referred to as the "Dog Days" of summer.  But thanks to the incessant heat enveloping the nation right now, I'll extend the canine comparison. The pooch pictured at the pool above is my dear Pooh-Bear, who's having some health issues. It's a good thing I have health insurance for her.  Seriously. Yes, even the cost of veterinary care has skyrocketed in recent years, so much so that I've been dreading these days when, as my dogs age, I know they'll need more and more medical [...]

Solomon, Palast & Belle

No, Solomon, Palast & Belle isn't a law firm ... quite the opposite.  These three are people who do a lot of good - and happened to all be guests on my show this morning! We began with Norman Solomon, long time activist turned congressional candidate.  I always love talking with Norman, but wanted him on the show this morning so I could talk listeners into donating a few bucks to his campaign.  Extra impetus - your donation to Solomon's campaign (or to Dr. David Gill's) AT THIS LINK enters you into a drawing to win a Fender Stratocaster autographed [...]

The Elephant in the Womb!

I am Woman.  And the GOP has it in for me.  Oh yes, they twist everything around and claim that the Democrats and the Obama administration are the ones waging war on the fairer sex, but we know better. We know who wants being a woman to continue to be classified as a "pre-existing condition and having given birth as one too... even having been raped!  (Yes, that's the party that sides with the for-profit health insurance industry (extortionists).  We know who voted against the Violence Against Women Act and even the Lilly Ledbetter Act that would require equal pay [...]

Strange Days

The Ramones (Tommy, anyway) on Morning Joe this morning, the Supreme Court likely overturning the closest thing we've had to health care for all in this country, people protesting against "Obamacare" even though they love what it does, candidates buying elections and union support.  I could go on and on, but we'll let the show do the rest. On today's show, I'll speak with John Fugelsang, a political comedian who turned the Romney campaign on its ear last week, Howie Klein of Down With Tyranny and the Blue America PAC who'll tell us why we need to vote against some [...]

Just Another Day In Paradise

I've been reading some of the messages to the 1% at occupytheboardroom.org, and this one - and many others like it - say so much! UNDERWATER Hello. We paid cash for our house back in 2005. Now, it's worth less than half what we paid for it, in spite of nearly $85,000.00 in improvements financed on our bank credit line. Why the price drop? The bottom fell out of the FL market, thanks to reckless and selfish actions by banks and mortgage brokers. We are now surrounded by foreclosures and short sales and abandoned houses and weeds and trash and squatters [...]

Oh Mercy Mercy Me

Marvin Gaye was on to something. He wrote Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) way back in 1971. And here we are today, fighting to save the planet.  The White House announced yesterday that they'll be installing a solar water heater and replacing the solar panels on the roof that Jimmy Carter installed in 1979, but Ronald Reagan took down. Bill McKibben and his gang at 350.org have another huge worldwide event planned this Sunday - 10-10-10. And our friend Howie Klein of DownWithTyranny and the Blue America PAC also had solar panels installed in his home last week... Today, we'll [...]
