Finally The Tables Are Starting to Turn

Yes, I'm still quoting Tracy Chapman.  It's only been 23 years since she wrote "Talkin Bout a Revolution," and finally, the tables are starting to turn. "Poor people gonna rise up and get their share".. I hope that happens. But the first steps have been taken. This weekend, people in every state in the nation took to the streets to say Enough!  Unfortunately, if you watched national or cable news, you didn't see much about it. Scroll down to the next blog post for my video from the USUncut protest at a Bank of America branch in Boca Raton, FL.  [...]

Talkin’ ‘Bout a Revolution

"Finally the tables are starting to turn" -- Tracey Chapman Revolution: a drastic and far-reaching change in ways of thinking and behaving... That's the revolution I'm talking about.  Real people - the hard working, wage earners, parents struggling to feed, clothe and house their children, young people trying to get a foothold in the world, the oppressed, the poor, the newly homeless, the chronically unemployed, the middle class -- are sick and tired of making the sacrifices to pay for the mistakes of the wealthy who keep failing upwards and getting richer. It's time for those with the bulk of [...]

Get Up! Stand Up!

People all over the world are finally awakening from their slumber. They're saying no more to tyrannical rule, oppression, and inequality. Beginning with a fed-up produce vendor in Tunisia who set himself on fire, people are standing up for their rights as part of the human race.  From Tunisia to Egypt, and on to Libya, Bahrain, Iran, Yemen, Iraq... people are empowered, and saying enough is enough. But the protests have been brewing throughout the European Union for a while now. We've watched the masses take to the streets in national strikes in France. And those who've been paying attention [...]

People Have The Power

I guess the old saying about things having to get worse before they get better is playing itself out today.  In the wake of the Republican party attacks on women's rights, the working class, the unemployed, unions, and the rest of what America is supposed to be about; of the revolutions and peoples uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Libya - and France and England - the American people are awakening from their slumber. We now have another reason to love Wisconsin.  They've spurred Americans to get off of our collective asses and stand up for our rights. Paul Krugman [...]

Walk Like a Wisconsinite

Kudos to the good people of Wisconsin for taking to the streets and standing up to their dictatorial new governor who wants to strip collective bargaining rights from state workers.  John Nichols is the Washington correspondent for The Nation, though he lives in Wisconsin.  He wrote about what's happening there, and joined us for a few minutes this morning to tell us about it too. As democracy is spreading virally thought the middle east, I'm hoping that people in the US will take notice of what's happening in Wisconsin and follow their lead. To be continued... And although I'm not [...]

Working Hard… or Hardly Working

As much of America is taking off for the holidays, some of us are lucky to be working, filling in for the vacationers.  That's the category I fall in to. I'm thrilled that, once again, Randi Rhodes has given me the honor of talking with her listeners while she enjoys some well-deserved rest and relaxation. In addition to being thankful for the work (and the paycheck!), I'm glad that I can continue my tradition of listening back to some of the highlights -and lowlights- of the year that's ending... It's our Rear End Year in Review (or something like that)...  [...]

Who is Bill Halter and Why is Everyone Giving Him Money?

Well, we're still not quite sure. We do know that he's got big balls!  He's the Lt. Gov of Arkansas, and he's mounted a primary challenge to incumbent CoservaDem Senator Blanche Lincoln and, for that, I love him.  But before I jump on the Halter bandwagon and sing his praises, I want to know a bit more about him. Some groups are painting him as a "progressive populist" and helping him raise lots of money, while others are proceeding a bit more cautiously.  Howie Klein of DownWithTyranny is working hard to get the real scoop on Halter.  So far, he's [...]
