Evolved!

I doubted on the show yesterday that he'd come out of the closet in support of marriage equality, especially by way of a televised interview.  But I was wrong, and I'm really glad to admit it. And to those of my brethren on the left, give the man some fucking credit where credit is due.  Watch it for yourself, then thank him for doing the right thing!  video platform video management video solutions video player This [...]

Truth is Scarier than Fiction

I say it all the time.  Some of the shit that's going on is so utterly unbelievable that it couldn't be fiction, because we'd never buy it.  But Mitt Romney is surrounding himself with the same war-loving Neo Cons who enabled the madness of President George Bush II. As I welcomed The Nation's Ari Berman to the show this morning, I warned that his new cover story, "Mitt Romney's Neocon War Cabinet" is more frightening than any horror movie you'll see at the local multiplex.  In fact,  you might not want to read this near bedtime, as the nightmares of [...]

Who Do You Love?

I love Joe Biden for saying this (and putting the ear worm in my head): Pretty awesome. I love France for kicking Sarkozy and his austerity agenda to the curb, and for electing their first Socialist president in almost two decades. Some of the things I love about President-elect Hollande: * Hollande opposes an economic policy based only on austerity and has promised to renegotiate the European fiscal compact to include provisions on jobs and growth; * Although he has pledged to balance public finances by the end of 2017, Hollande has also said he will adapt that target if growth [...]

The Caucus, The Guns and The News

Welcome to the first election day of 2012. Except it's not really an election, it's a caucus - held in Iowa - and it doesn't mean a damned thing. The Caucus:  My friend Kenneth Quinnell of the Florida Progressive Coalition wrote a great piece for Crooks & Liars - Iowa Caucus Preview - and he joined me to talk about it.  We also discussed some Florida issues - including next Tuesday's of the legislative session and the Awake the State rallies planned statewide that day.  Find the one closest to you and attend.  (I'll be speaking at the one in [...]

John Boehner’s Lies

Last night we watched as President Obama tried to explain to the American people (who mostly don’t pay attention) what’s going on with the “debt crisis” – which you and I know is a fake crisis as the real crisis is the lack of jobs.  While Obama was busy playing middle of the road politics and making nice with Speaker Boehner (and echoing the right wing talking points about our “out of control spending”  as the cause for this “crisis” and the “both parties are to blame” line), Boehner went on the attack blaming it all on President Obama and [...]

Ding Dong Prop H8 is Dead

... for now anyway, as an appeal has already been filed, and a stay is already in place.  But it's great news coming out of California as Judge Vaughn Walker (a George H W Bush appointee, no less) ruled that the statute violated a fundamental right of people in love to get married-- he found Prop 8 "unconstitutional under both the due process and equal protection clauses.". Read the ruling for yourself here: Prop 8 Ruling FINAL It's nice to be able to share good news for a change! We'll get into the ruling tonight with FireDogLake's Teddy Partridge and [...]

Another Monday, Another Shit Storm

We're now officially in the dog days of August, and things are supposed to be slooow.  But nooo.  Not in America in 2010.  We haven't had a slow news week in over a year, it seems. In the car just a few minutes ago, we were listening to Rachel Maddow (on XM channel 120), and she heard about the Target boycott due to the fact that they donated $150,000 to MN Forward, a PAC who used the funds to purchase TV ads for GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmers, a staunch opponent of marriage equality.  She looked at me and said, [...]
