Scandalous!

The GOP is at it again.  That bastion of social welfare, the Heritage Foundation (they must be an organization devoted to doing work in the realms of Religious, Educational, Charitable, Scientific, Literary, Testing for Public Safety, to Foster National or International Amateur Sports Competition, or Prevention of Cruelty to Children or Animals as they enjoy tax-exempt status under their 501(c)3 designation, right?)  wrote a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor urging them to stop doing the work they were sent to Washington to do in favor of ratcheting up "scandals" in the Obama administration. [...]

The Day Before Thanksgiving Double Header- from Walmart to the Fiscal Cliff..er.. Curb and Beyond

The Black Friday sales are weird.  People subject themselves to crowding and pushing and manic people fighting over an item that will soon likely be forgotten anyway.  They wait in lines at ungodly hours, all to save a few pennies.  And low-wage workers are made to smile and help the angry mobs. In the past couple of years, the start time for Black Friday has inched ever earlier, now starting before Thanksgiving Thursday has ended.  The losers in this scenario are those low wage workers who have no other recourse.... until now. Walmart workers are going on strike.  More power [...]

2012 FTW (For the Win!)

We dodged a big bullet in the form of Mitt Romney last night.  American won a number of victories last night on a few fronts, but truly, our work is just beginning.  Since President Obama will now have a second term - and a good majority in the Senate - we have a fighting chance to insure the longevity of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid - and the other ideals that make this nation great.  But "fighting" is the operative word there, as the Republicans might be bad winners, they're certainly very sore losers. As we saw during this election [...]

“Fox News: We Make Shit Up”

My offer stands. Fox can use the slogan "We Make Shit Up" any time, free of charge.  It's certainly more accurate than any other slogan they've ever used. So far, they haven't taken me up on it.. but it's there, whenever they want it. The story of the ridiculously named "Fox News" is out, courtesy of our friends at Media Matters.  This morning, I spoke with Ari Rabin-Havt, executive director of the venerable organization and co-author of  The Fox Effect: How Roger Ailes Turned a Network into a Propaganda Machine. Every Tuesday, I spend the second hour of the show [...]

I Told You My Congressman Was Insane

Allen West is not only a coward and a war criminal. He’s also a misogynist.  The newest evidence that all of those allegations are true comes from the pen of the congressman himself. Yesterday, DNC Chair and member of Congress Debbie Wasserman-Schultz gave a fairly typical, albeit tough, floor speech on the topic of HR 2560 – the “Cut, Cap and Balance” bill that, as she said, is like the Ryan plan on steroids.  Here is the entirety of her speech: Did you catch where she “directed [her] floor speech comments directly towards [Allen West]”?  [...]

Monday Madness

Same shit, different week.  As summer drones on, the elected elite continue arguing about the wrong issue.  The problem is not the debt ceiling. The problem is massive unemployment.  And those elected to represent us in Washington DC aren't doing a damn thing to fix it. I love speaking with Howie Klein because he's informed and engaged on all of it.  Howie, who blogs at Down With Tyranny and runs the Blue America PAC (along with Digby and C&L's John Amato), was out of the country on vacation for a while.  So today, we were able to catch up on [...]

Opposite World

There's a fairly large portion of the population who believe things that make absolutely no sense in the real world. They buy the bullshit from the hucksters and con-men and opportunists and religious zealots who tell them that health care as a basic human right is a bad thing, and that cutting taxes for the richest of the rich - while increasing the burden on the working class and the unemployed - is the right thing to do. It's Opposite World. Where up is down, bad is good, and things that are just plain wrong are right! It's populated by [...]

Awesomeness and Laffs

How do you do a radio show when you're feeling flu-ish? Invite the Awesome Bob Cesca and Gotta Laff to be your guests!  OK, Laffy was already scheduled (she's on with me every Tuesday morning), but Bob Cesca is certainly coming to the rescue. For readers not in the know, Bob Cesca's Awesome Blog! Go! is here, and you also read him on Huffington Post.  He's no stranger to radio either; he and Elvis Dingeldein host a weekly podcast too.  We'll talk about whatever comes up, though I'm sure we'll hit on the fact that Richard Shelby is blocking the [...]
