Next Up: The Locusts!

For mid-week in August, with the President and Congress on vacation, it's a pretty damned busy news day. Yesterday, during the lull between my show here at Radio or Not, and my fill-in stint for Randi Rhodes, an earthquake hit, centered in Virginia and felt in 22 states - quite strongly in Washington DC and New York City! Having lived in Los Angeles for 14 years, I'm an earthquake veteran. Having lived through the big '94 Northridge quake, I can talk earthquakes with the best of them! I'm also a hurricane survivor.  Although I was living in LA at the [...]

Satan Sandwich With A Side of Hypocrisy

As detailed in my last post, the House voted yesterday to pass the Satan Sandwich (aka the debt ceiling bill).  We already knew the Tea Partiers were ignorant fools.  Now they're also proven hypocrites, as 59 GOP freshmen voted for the bill (2/3 of the rookie class) with only 28 voting against. Based on Michele Bachmann's official list of members of her Tea Party Caucus, 32 of them declared their hypocrisy and voted for the deal!  (Should you care to see the list, scroll down to the bottom of the post.) I must point out that my sorry excuse for [...]

“Open your mouth lad, for every voice counts!”

...said the Mayor of Whoville to the shirker named JoJo who, instead of speaking out just played with his yo-yo.  But when he did lend his voice, that's all it took. The whole world was saved by the smallest voice of all. Horton Hears a Who is one of my all time favorite books.  When I awoke this morning and saw that today is Dr. Seuss' birthday, I thought it was time to pull out that book again, as the lesson needs to be learned by everyone who isn't making their voices heard.  I hope you'll listen to today's show, [...]

Finally The Tables Are Starting to Turn

Yes, I'm still quoting Tracy Chapman.  It's only been 23 years since she wrote "Talkin Bout a Revolution," and finally, the tables are starting to turn. "Poor people gonna rise up and get their share".. I hope that happens. But the first steps have been taken. This weekend, people in every state in the nation took to the streets to say Enough!  Unfortunately, if you watched national or cable news, you didn't see much about it. Scroll down to the next blog post for my video from the USUncut protest at a Bank of America branch in Boca Raton, FL.  [...]

Talkin’ ‘Bout a Revolution

"Finally the tables are starting to turn" -- Tracey Chapman Revolution: a drastic and far-reaching change in ways of thinking and behaving... That's the revolution I'm talking about.  Real people - the hard working, wage earners, parents struggling to feed, clothe and house their children, young people trying to get a foothold in the world, the oppressed, the poor, the newly homeless, the chronically unemployed, the middle class -- are sick and tired of making the sacrifices to pay for the mistakes of the wealthy who keep failing upwards and getting richer. It's time for those with the bulk of [...]

Beck to Mika “Fuck You!”?

Obviously, there are more important things going on in the world today, but this one jumped out at me like a maniacal asshole on a Fake News channel claiming the sky is falling. (Oh right, that's what it is...) As she does every Tuesday morning, Gotta Laff of The Political Carnival joins me to talk about some of the stories we might have otherwise missed in the week gone by.  So, this morning, we were listening to Glenn Beck's inane ranting about Egypt, and his sexist dissing of Mike Brzezinksi.  (I've been know to diss Mika too, but it's the [...]

Soothing the Savage Beast

I'm not feeling great today, and my savage soul could use a little soothing. So, I invited my friend (the awesome singer songwriter) Jill Sobule on the show this morning. After talking with her and hearing some of her songs, I am feeling a little better. Of course, I spent the first hour ranting about the insanity of the right wing.  By now, you've likely seen this video: In GOP world, education is bad, and you're only qualified to be president if you're a white Christian.  Maybe we should teach them the history of the Mormons. In other news... CPAC [...]

And Glenn Beck is Still Out of his Fucking Mind

It's another busy Tuesday! Keith Olbermann's headed to Current TV. DLC will fold. No one's leaving Tahrir Square.  The House is back in session today, for a few hours anyway. And Glenn Beck is still out of his fucking mind. Those stories and more on today's Nicole Sander Show! Seriously... We started with another call to my new friend in Egypt. Marwa Rakha joined us on Thursday, and I called her again this morning for an update on the mood in Egypt. The reasons behind the uprising in Egypt are present here in the US as well.  We have an [...]

Walking Like Egyptians

Wondering what it would take to get Americans walking like Egyptians these days. According to a report I saw numerous times on Al Jazeera English this weekend, the conditions that led to Egyptians taking to the streets to take control of their government are much like what we are experiencing here in US these days: High unemployment, growing poverty, huge divide between the rich and the poor, too many "businessmen" in government.  Seriously. I had the honor of being a guest on Thom Hartmann's TV show, "The Big Picture" Thursday evening to talk about the plight of the 99ers. Interesting, [...]

This Week in Weirdness

So far, 2011 has been a strange year. And this week might just win the weirdness award. Let's recap... Keith Olbermann suddenly departs MSNBC (on the first anniversary of the end of Air America and the Supreme Court ruling overturning 100 years of law in the Citizens United v FEC case); the President adopts GOP themes in his State of the Union address, including tort reform and lowering corporate taxes; cross-aisle dates for the SOTU; and the strangest of strange: Dennis Kucinich sues the House cafeteria over an olive pit in his veggie wrap. That's all not to mention the [...]
