I'm back. For now... Since I've been out for the past few Thursdays, we've been missing Harvey J. Kaye. So he joined me today for a quick visit. In hour two, Marijuana Policy Project's Director of Federal Policies, Robert Capecchi, told us about the DEA's decision to keep marijuana as a schedule 1 substance. The Silver Tour's Robert Platshorn joined in to tell us about tomorrow's one day picket of Publix, whose founder's heir donated $800 million to the campaign to defeat Amendment 2, the medical marijuana amendment on the ballot Nov 8. If you're in South Florida, come [...]
The Green Party convention got underway yesterday in Houston, when Dr. Jill Stein will officially be nominated as their presidential candidate for the second time in a row. Today, I'm out for yet another doctor's appointment, so I put together an abbreviated "Best Of" program featuring a couple of interviews with Dr. Stein, from May of 2012 during her first run and from April of 2015 when she had just launched her exploratory committee for her current campaign. I also hosted Jill on the program about a month ago. If you missed it, you can listen here. Her interview [...]
Today, I shared my frustration with our broken healthcare system. The for-profit insurance industry is, itself, a cancer that needs to be eradicated. I've spent the past 24 hours trying to find a top-rated cancer hospital that actually takes the crappy insurance policy I bought at healthcare.gov. Perhaps someone can explain to me the value of health insurance if you can't use it to get treatment. This is why we need Medicare for All. Today on the show, I spoke with Portia Boulger, one of the founders of Women for Bernie, a Bernie Sanders delegate to the DNC and longtime [...]
Here's Nicole's 6 minute look at the news of the day, with an assist from the Talk Media News Service and some very talented musicians..
Yes, it’s time to steal a few more jokes from my father-in-law (F.I.L.). His blog posts range from political comedy to humorous commentary on pop culture. For those of you who might be new here, he used to write for Alan King, Milton Berle and Jonathan Winters, just to name a few. And all those Dean Martin Roasts, too: Don Rickles, Red Buttons, Phyllis Diller, Sammy Davis, Jr., etc. A tiny respite from all the frustrating events of the day: It's official, HILLARY CLINTON and DONALD TRUMP have both clinched the nomination for their respective parties. Which means we could [...]
Can we take the temperature down a few notches please? I logged into the Radio or Not chat room this morning only to see one semi-regular chatter going on and on about the massacre in Orlando being a "false flag" operation. And the kicker was her subsequent comment that after "watching the videos" she's convinced that Sandy Hook was too. Others in the YouTube chat went ballistic when I played a bit of Samantha Bee's powerful and spot-on commentary from last night's show about the murders in Orlando because "she supports HRC." Newsflash, if you have no use for anyone [...]
We are an angry nation inside an angry world. The choice we're making in this election year is how best to deal with the anger. Nicole discusses that and more with professor and author Harvey J. Kaye, and Blue America PAC's Howie Klein
