Alan run

It wasn’t all that long ago that I first took notice of Congressman Alan Grayson. He was a freshman representative from the Orlando area, and he was delivering the best floor speech ever!

The date was Sept. 29, 2009, and the rest, as they say, is history! After that day, we all knew his name, and I felt as if there was someone in Congress who represented me (even if he wasn’t my representative!)

Since that time, I’ve gotten to know Alan Grayson. Not only have I had the honor of interviewing him many times in the years since we first heard him, but I also had the pleasure of accompanying him to the Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour show in Boston a few years back. We were both attending Netroots Nation in Providence, RI, and Alan invited me to go with him.

To paraphrase what he said to me (and I now use in a promo), it was great to get to know him personally, as he’s the same guy off the air as we hear on the air.

And I can think of no one I’d rather represent me in the US Senate!

The word is that Congressman Grayson is considering running for the seat now occupied by Marco Rubio, who will likely announce his presidential aspirations in the next week or two. Regardless of Rubio’s candidacy, I urge Alan Grayson to run.

The only candidate who’s officially announce thus far is the right-wing shill dressed as a Democrat, Patrick Murphy. For some unfathomable reason, my congressman, Ted Deutch, has already endorsed him, as has another South Florida member, Lois Frankel. They should both be ashamed of themselves!

Thankfully, some progressive groups are actively working to convince Alan to run, including the Progressive Democratic Caucus of Florida. And the Blue America PAC has set up a fundraising page for him too. Please give, I did!

In the second hour of today’s show, it was Tuesday with Laffy! GottaLaff now blogs right here at Laffy’s Place at radioornot.com, and joins me solo every other Tuesday morning (on alternating weeks, she participates with Amy Simon and me in the Gliberal Goddesses).

Today, we talked about online bullying, Trevor Noah – the incoming host of The Daily Show who’s already being skewered on Twitter because of some old “jokes” he Tweeted out a while ago, the Justin Bieber roast, and lots more.

And I’ll be back tomorrow, to take on a Wednesday, radio or not!
