Clinton, Warren, Fluke and a Nun off the Bus

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120906_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Clinton_Warren_and_the_Nun_off_the_Bus.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window While the interwebs and TV pundits were buzzing this morning about Bill Clinton's fiery speech last night at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, I was marveling at how moved I was by a nun.  Sister Simone Campbell came off the bus to talk to the American people and counter the anti-Christian message being sent by the Catholic bishops. Although there were a number of great speeches yesterday, Day 2 of the 2012 DNC gathering (quite a contrast from last week's GOP mess),  I was shocked at how much a [...]

Bad RNC Juju

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120827_Nicole_Sandler_Show.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window That's the split-screen image I think we'll be seeing over the course of this week.. On the left side of your screen, the ominous charts and pictures of Issac - strengthening into a full-blown hurricane and barreling toward the Gulf Coast - most notably New Orleans as we mark the 7th anniversary of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The RNC powers were very short-sighted on their decision to cancel the convention activities today, while the storm is still out in the Gulf.  Tomorrow - as they begin their celebration of regression - millions [...]

Legitimizing Stupidity

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120820_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_legitimate.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   Just when you thought you'd seen it all, another teabagger opens its mouth.   Actually, we shouldn't be surprised that this asshattery came from Todd Akin.  He was one of the many co-sponsors of 2011's assinine “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” a bill which, among other things, introduced the country to the bizarre term “forcible rape".  And yes, Paul Ryan was a co-sponsor too. Actually, Paul Ryan has been at the forefront of a lot of anti-woman legislation, including a "Personhood" bill that would declare life begins at [...]

Pushing Grandma From the Train.. or Off the Cliff

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120813_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Romney-Ryan.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   I must admit, that was my first thought when I heard the news that Mitt Romney had tapped Paul "kill Medicare" Ryan as his running mate.  Seriously. The guy who wants to destroy Medicare as we know it? That'll help Mitt in Florida (not). As I attempted to ask the guy who is supposed to be representing me in Congress, "Give me the name of the for-profit insurance company who'll sell a policy to an 85-year old with high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity."  It doesn't exist.  And [...]

NBC Big Olympic Fail

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120730_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_NBC_Fail.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window I know I risk being banned from Twitter for criticizing NBC's Olympic coverage, but I just can't help myself. The beautiful image above wasn't seen by the millions of Americans who tuned in - via tape delay - to the Opening Ceremonies of the XXX Olympiad in London. (Britain's Guy Adams' Twitter account was suspended after repeated tweets criticizing NBC and at least one containing the email address of an NBC executive!) But I have so many things to complain about that I'll take the risk. 1. Stop with [...]

I’d Take Away The Guns

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120723_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Id_Take_Away_the_Guns.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   Some idiot on twitter just took issue with my use of the term "assault weapons". The neanderthal in question then excoriated me for blocking its feed rather than "learning" from it. Seriously. Call it a rifle, machine gun or weapon of mass destruction, I don't really care. We're not talking semantics. We're talking life or death. And for 12 people in Aurora, CO on Friday just after midnight, it was death at the hands - and weapons - of a madman.  As the song says,  Maybe it's the [...]

Enough to Make You Sick- Thank God for Obamacare

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120702_Nicole_Sandler_Show.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window Right wing crazy talk host Michael Weiner "Savage" blamed Justice Roberts' decision on the drugs he takes allegedly for epilepsy.   In a closed door House GOP meeting onThursday,Indiana Congressman Pence (and the GOP candidate for Governor) likened the Supreme Court's ruling to the Sept 11 terrorist attacks, according to several sources present. He apologized afterward, calling the remarks “thoughtless”.  Ben Shapiro (Breitbart "journalist") tweeted: "This is the greatest destruction of individual liberty since Dred Scott. This is the end of America as we know it. No exaggeration." And Senator [...]

SCOTUS: The Good, The Good, and The Very Ugly!

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120625_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_SCOTUS_Part_1.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window As my show started at 10am ET, I had one eye glued to the SCOTUSblog live blog coverage of their decisions.  There was a very good decision today in the ruling that said juveniles couldn't be given life sentences without the possibility of parole.  There was another good decision, for the most part, on Arizona's SB1070, which struck down most of that heinous law, but kept the "paper-please" portion (though without commenting on what should be done with the information that someone stopped is or is not in the country legally). [...]

DREAM on

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120618_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_DREAM_on.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window On Friday, President Obama made history when he announced that his administration would no longer seek to deport hundreds of thousands of undocumented young people who know the United States as their home. Under the administration plan, illegal immigrants will be able to avoid deportation if they can prove they were brought to the United States before they turned 16 and are younger than 30, have been in the country for at least five continuous years, have no criminal history, graduated from a U.S. high school or earned a [...]

Gaffe Wars, Netroots and More!

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120611_Nicole_Sandler_Show_.mp3 {/play} Play in new window     By now, most of the gaffe machines have left the race.  I'll certainly miss Rick Perry's "Oops" moments, Michele Bachmann confusing birthdays with death anniversaries and much-loved movie stars with mass murderers, Herman Cain's lack of knowledge of world leaders and pronunciation of their country's names and, of course, Newt's moon colonies, philandering and Tiffany's credit line.  But one thing we'll never be short of during a presidential election year is the gaffe. While I was not paying attention to the news for the past few days, we [...]
