Download here or click below to play, (or watch the video at the bottom of the page!) After a look at what's happening in our world today, we'll talk about something that affects so many of us. Sadly, it tends to get worse this time of the year. Depression affects everyone, regardless of age, race and financial situation, though I'd guess those struggling are more likely to be depressed--- but not necessarily. Women are more prone to depression, though both genders suffer from bipolar disorder equally. There are other afflictions that often accompany depression, most notably anxiety and bi [...]
An arrest was made this morning in connection with the bombs that were sent to critics of Donald Trump this week. Nicole Sandler has the latest details. Then we'll change topics. Since the World Series is in full swing, Nicole is joined by her husband David Sloane, an agent representing baseball players, to speak with Christian Red and Teri Thompson, co-authors of the new book, Baseball Cop: The Dark Side of America's National Pastime. If you're interested in reading the article that Christian Red wrote about David and the client who back-stabbed him, just click here.
My outrage over the right wing hypocrisy concerning the release of Bowe Bergdahl continued over the weekend, and boiled over after John McCain made his zillionth Sunday show appearance yesterday, with Candy Crowley at CNN where he proclaimed the five Taliban members traded for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was being held prison of war, were "hardcore military jihadists who are responsible for 9/11" and should have been detained indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay or some other U.S. prison. "First of all, I wouldn't release these men," McCain told CNN host Candy Crowley. "Ever?" Crowley wondered. "Not these men," McCain [...]
The world has indeed gone mad. We have religious zealots going all the way to the Supreme Court, claiming their religious freedom is being violated because they're not allowed to impose their religious beliefs on their employees. We have political opponents of the president claiming he's both a wimp/pussy/weak/feckless leader and a dictator at the same time. We have a country on the verge of descending into pure fascism, and people are either too busy, too broke or too uninformed to take the action necessary to turn things around. Please vote in November. Please support progressive candidates, as they're the [...]
I don't usually talk sports on my show. But yesterday, I started seeing tweets lamenting the loss of Marvin Miller - someone whose name I didn't know before. After reading Keith Olbermann's beautiful tribute to the man, I asked David Sloane (who happens to be my fiance) about him. David is an agent who represents professional baseball players, so I wasn't surprised when he answered by saying, somewhat wistfully, that Miller is the man responsible for David being an agent today. Marvin Miller's story does have a place on this show. As head of the Players Association, Miller was a union [...]
It's a busy show tonight, and I want to make sure you have links to all the guests and most of the topics! We'll kick things off at 11pm ET/8pm PT with John Amato of Crook & Liars. I've been a fan of that site for a long time, and this is John's first appearance on my show, so I'm quite excited about it. But I'm at a bit of a disadvantage, as the story he wants to talk about tonight deals with baseball player Mark McGwire, his steroid use, and the fact that former George W. Bush spokesliar Ari [...]
