I couldn’t resist using the image above, because regardless of who you support, you gotta admit, it’s a pretty awesome bumper sticker.
Last night the Brown and Black Democratic Presidential Forum took place in Iowa. All three candidates sat down for about a half hour each and answered questions from the hosts and from audience members.
This was not a debate. Nonono, the DNC has limited the Dem candidates to a minimum number of debates that are inexplicably held at times that pretty much guarantee smaller audiences. Republican debates, on the other hand, are having much better exposure on way more and better nights giving them plenty of air time to influence many more gullible voters. Way to go, DNC!
The DNC (coughRep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz!cough) refuses to add more debates, so these forums pop up now and then to compensate, giving Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton (who skipped the last forum), and Martin O’Malley a chance to share their views in depth. And by that I mean, share them with whomever realizes the events even exist and are able to stream them. Most people aren’t aware of them. You may recall Rachel Maddow hosted her own forum on MSNBC back in November 2015. The longform format works well, because the candidates don’t get cut off and can delve into the issues in more detail.
But I digress.
I edited out the segment featuring Sanders on guns so that our readers can hear him in his own words on a controversial topic. It really shouldn’t be all that controversial, because Sanders still gets a D- from the NRA, and he differs very little from Hillary Clinton on the issue. While I don’t agree with some of his past votes on gun laws, overall I agree with him on nearly everything else. And before you ask, the answer is yes, I will vote for Hillary Clinton should she become our nominee. I strongly urge you to read this post that I wrote about that very topic.
But I digress again.
Here is the segment, followed by a video of the entire Dem Forum:
