No Slow News Day – Barney Says Good-Bye

The morning began with the news that my favorite congressional curmudgeon is retiring.  Barney Frank has announced he will not seek re-election next year.  Such sad news, as the House of Representatives is surely a finer place with Barney's no bullshit approach to his job. I only had the opportunity to interview him once.  It was June of 2009, and I was hosting a late night show on Air America.  Since I was on so late, I would record some of the interviews earlier in the day.  That was the case with Congressman Frank.  But I don't think he knew [...]

President Obama: Weigh in on #OWS and our Burgeoning Police State

When even Shepard Fairey, the creator of the 2008 Obama “Hope” poster weighs in to hold President Obama accountable, you know we're on to something.  This morning, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the U.S. is deeply concerned about the violence and is calling for restraint on all sides. At this meeting, as AlterNet's Joshua Holland recounted on this morning's show, those present voted in favor of a general strike to happen on Wednesday, November 2. From OccupyOakland.org: Below is the proposal passed by the Occupy Oakland General Assembly [...]

SHOCKER: A Liar in a Congressman’s Office

Today, after the American Dream rally at the Capitol, a group of us - including Marcy Wheeler of emptywheel, Andrew Harman of Change to Win, Sandy Carpenter of ForRespect.org, and a few others from  Our DC paid a visit to the three GOP House members of the Super Committee to tell them why we need Jobs, not cuts. The staffers in Congressmen Jeb Hensarling's and Fred Upton's offices were cordial and listened to us.  The treatment we received in Dave Camp's office was a completely different experience.  See it for yourself. Tomorrow, it's off to Occupy DC with the October2011.org [...]
