UPDATE: Both Bob McDonnell and his wife found guilty on most charges. Mrs. McDonnell was found not guilty on a couple of them. Sentencing will be on January 6th.

Well, at least now we know whether the “Throw the Crazy Little Woman with a Childlike Crush Under the Bus” defense worked. It didn’t.

The government had accused the McDonnells of doing special favors for Jonnie Williams, the former CEO of dietary supplement maker Star Scientific, Inc., in exchange for more than $177,000 in gifts and loans. Both of the McDonnells faced one count of conspiracy to commit honest-services wire fraud, three counts of honest-services wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to obtain property under color of official right, and six counts of obtaining property under color of official right.

Bob McDonnell also faced two counts of making false statements, while Maureen faced one count of making false statements and one count of obstruction of an official proceeding. The scandal and subsequent indictment marred the last months in office for McDonnell, who had been considered a possible running mate for Mitt Romney in 2012.
