I was going to be here yesterday. I really was. But the visit with the pulmonologist shook me out of my optimistic outlook and scared the shit out of me. The mass on my lung, unearthed by the x-ray of my heart on Thursday night is, according to the doctor, “large.” He said we need to find out what it it. No shit!
The next step is a PET-CT scan. Now we wait for United Healthcare to approve it. And we wait. As of today, when David called the office, the government-sanctioned extortionists have all the information. We should hear something tomorrow… or Monday…
Once I know when I can get the test, I’ll let you know. I’ll put together some evergreen Best Of shows to run on those days when I’ll have to be out visiting doctors.
We did get to talking politics with Harvey J. Kaye, professor of Democracy and Justice at University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, and author of The Fight for the Four Freedoms: What Made FDR and the Greatest Generation Truly Great in the first hour.
Howie Klein of Down With Tyranny and the Blue America PAC joined me in hour two. We did take a slight detour from politics to talk about our healthcare system in the wake of what I’m dealing with and Howie’s battle with cancer over the last couple of years. (Follow that link to read part one, then continue reading his Cancer Diaries.. it’s important stuff and a story with a great ending too!). He explained how Medicare took care of everything, but did caution that you really need a supplemental policy to cover the 20% that Medicare does not pay! Do NOT, however, confuse a supplemental policy with Medicare Advantage, a tool to allow the for-profit insurance companies government-sanctioned extortionists to get their grubby little hands on your Medicare money.
We just checked in with the doctor’s office, and no approval has come through for the PET-CT scan. So, I’ll be back tomorrow with Julianna Forlano and have Brunch with Boca Britany too!
