In the week following my arrest at Allen West’s so-called Town Hall Meeting, I’ve been attacked by many on the right. The interesting thing is that none of them are criticizing the question I was trying to ask my congressman. Instead, I’ve been hit by ad hominem attacks – that I’m a racist, a nazi or just plain fat and ugly!
Just last week on Real Time with Bill Maher, Andrew Brietbart accused me of staging my own arrest! He accused another woman who dared to ask her congressman a relevant question about the future of Medicare at his town hall meeting an “astroturf” event — because he’s guilty of doing exactly what he accused us of!
Comments on blogs and newspaper accounts from people who might disagree with me politically don’t attempt to engage me on the political disagreements, but instead resort to name calling.
I deleted a comment from my blog from one who only identifies himself as “NJ C” who said that I was a racist. I emailed him/her privately, but am stunned by the ensuing correspondence. So, I’ll share it with you here”

But it was in response to West’s statement to a women’s group a couple of weeks about about “those women on the other side – the Planned Parenthood women and the Code Pink women” he complained were “neutering” men.
Yes, I hate everything he stands for, but I feel the same way about many white people. What does that make me?
You know absolutely nothing about me. I may be a lot of things, but racist isn’t one of them.

Just an example of what I’ve been dealing with for the past week or so. Aren’t there any Republicans or Allen West supporters who get that you can disagree with someone’s ideology without resorting to name calling? I guess not. I think these people need to take a good hard look in the mirror.
***Update*** Moments after posting this article, my “friend” emailed me again. Here’s what he had to say:
I actually do not thing that you are racist at all. The point I’m making here is the ridiculous claim of racism that is thrown out for every comment made in dealing with regards to this President. I despise every aspect of the Obama administrations policies, but when discussing policy with liberals the racism charge ALWAYS comes up and I’m sick of it. I wanted to show you how defending the fact that your are NOT a racist because you disagree with policy is maddening. I think you may have got a taste of it here, it sucks-doesn’t it?
And with regards to my not “knowing you at all.” On the contrary- I know everything about you (not you as Nicole, you as a militant lib). You, like all libs, think with your heart and not your head. You want feel good policies that “help the poor,” but actually keep them in poverty- welfare, extended unemployment bennies for ever- polices that have destroyed the black family and have created generations of poor. You have animosity for personal responsibility, for some odd reason you hate big business even though big business is the engine that runs this country and has put food on our table and has made us the richest country the world has ever seen. You want to “take care of the environment and protect the spotted owl’s habitat” but you wouldn’t give a second thought to killing a growing human in the womb of some chick because of some warped view that it’s the chick’s body and that growing fetus is just another inconvenience that person’s life. You are a single mother that has issues with men and you feel you have to overcompensate with anger because of some preconceived notion that this society somehow makes women second class citizens and “you ain’t gonna take that.” You, like all libs, have deep seated anger at this country and you’re never happy because you’ve bought into all the Gloria Steinum/ 1970’s nutty ideas of men and how men and women should interact and that has shaped your view on everything. You want a cradle to grave nanny state where our incompetent government takes care of everything because you can’t take care of yourself.

I believe he’s full of shit, but was embarrassed to have his own racism on display for all to see. My last response to this nonsense will be a quote from Bill Maher. “Not all Republicans are racist, but all racists are likely Republicans.”

Interesting how NJ C insists he (do we know the gender?) knows you. And this “knowledge” is based on what now? His ability to find and embrace a pejorative term to describe you (lib). Why make it more complicated than you have to? It’s not knowledge, it’s name-calling. Close enough, I guess.

In the lead-up to the 2010 election, Citizens Against Government Waste, an anti-spending front group based in Washington D.C., released an ad designed to provoke xenophobic fears about Chinese holding of a portion of our national debt. The ad, titled “Chinese Professor,” depicts a fictional Chinese classroom in the year 2030 where a Chinese professor recounts the economic downfall of the United States and notes, “Of course, we owned most of their debt, so now they work for us”:[VIDEO]
Last week, during a Fort Lauderdale town hall, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) cited the Chinese Professor ad in his warning about “serious” threats facing the United States. West referenced the ad as the one “about the Japanese professor”:
WEST: This is historically what our debt looks like. You can see from 1970, foreign holdings, 5 percent, to where we are today, foreign holdings of our debt is at 47 percent. Next slide. And that is who holds our debt. 29 percent to China, Japan, and you can see the rest. I don’t know if you all have seen that commercial that’s been running on TV about the Japanese professor in the future that’s making fun of the United States of America. This is really serious stuff.

Well your troll, NJ C, clearly doesn’t get liberals and proves it by saying we are all alike. Man, getting liberals to all go the same direction is like herding cats. I know that’s been said a lot, but it is very true.
Comparing your political disagreement with Alan West to the comments about Obama and saying if you call people’s remarks about Obama racist, then your disagreement with West is also racist, is clearly a false equivalency of “Beckian” proportions. You disagree with West and other Tea Party members over their corporatist policies. Your questions at the town hall were not personal, but were about policy. Your hatred of West and others like him is solely based on their activities to destroy the American system of government and all the social programs in it, all for their own financial gain.
In contrast, the tea party folk don’t ever talk about policy when the talk about Obama. They always put it in racist terms and that is why it can in no way be equivalent to you asking West why he wants to destroy medicare. All the tea party signs show Obama as an aboriginal African with a bone in his nose, a watermelon farm at the White House, Hitler mustache etc. And their words match the signs. They don’t use the “N” word but they do everything BUT. They say Obama is not “one of us” an outsider, a Kenyan, or a communist, or a muslim… and on and on and on. Clearly that is so racist it’s sickening. This is the president of the United States! I disagree with much that he has done, as you well know, but I am disgusted by the racism used by the Republican Party, which is pretty much the same as the Tea Party now.
I dislike West intensely, not because he his black, but because he is a sociopath who cares nothing about America, just like his fellow Republicans. They are appealing to all the basest instincts of humanity: greed, hatred, small mindedness. They are lackeys to big business, out to get all they can for themselves, and are turning the country into a fascist theocracy for their own selfish benefit.
Another area in which NJ C is confused is the engine that drives the country. It is not “big business”, but small private businesses. They employ a larger percentage of Americans than either the public sector or big business. And small business is suffering as much as the middle class with this big grab-it-all scheme of the corporations and their minions in both political parties.
I notice that HJ C, like most Republicans that post here, have no solutions, just criticism. This whole Ayn Randian, screw-those-in-need, only-no-government-is-s-good-government bent the GOP is taking is madness. It depends on supporters that will never need medicare, never need social security, never need clean water or roads or clean air even! And that’s just about nobody!
I think 2012 is going to be a very interesting year!

If you think american corporations are helping and strengthening the economy, then you must be a billionaire. If you are a working class individual, then I pity you, for allowing yourself to be sheep herded into social and economic ruin.
Clearly you are a mental defect as most people would not be proud over lying and assisting terrorist as well as a violation of a number of laws to “bounce” President Carter. You must believe that any behavior initiated by yourself or other social malcontents as long as you feel you are meeting your needs is acceptable.
