It’s a big day here at the Nicole Sandler Show. First, today marks three years that I’m cancer-free; my lung cancer surgery was three years ago today. Second, I’m based in South Florida, where we’re currently bracing for Hurricane Dorian to hit on Monday or Tuesday as a Category Four storm. I’ve done this dance too many times.
Our guest today is Frank Schaeffer who, due to his father, has a perspective on the religious right that few others have. He’ll tell about his background, and then explain what’s so disturbing about Donald Trump’s relationship with the evangelicals and how he’s surrounded by “Jew-hating Christian Zionists”- perfect conversation to kick off your labor day weekend festivities!
Find Frank’s books here. If you’re interested in his upbringing as the son of Francis Schaeffer, known as the Pope of the religious right, do check out Crazy For God: How I Grew Up as One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right, and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of it Back.
The perfect postscript for today’s show comes by way of this NY Times op-ed: “Why People Hate Religion”
