The unthinkable happened again this weekend. A crazy person who should never have been allowed anywhere near a gun was allowed to “legally” purchase a weapon of war and a handgun, went to a gay club in Orlando and opened fire, killing at least 50 people and injuring at least 53 others.

Our regular Monday morning guest Joel Silberman was back today with a unique perspective on this madness as a gay man who’s working with Bob Poe, a candidate running for Congress from Orlando (FL 10), who announced he’s HIV positive on Thursday of last week.

I mentioned my interview with former Australian Deputy Prime Minister, Tim Fischer, who helped usher in their gun laws that have prevented another mass shooting since the Port Arthur massacre, that inspired the new regulations in the 90s. (The interview begins at around the 41 minute mark, so cue in. Or listen from the beginning, as there’s a Bernie Sanders interview in there too!)

And this is the clip I played on the show this morning from HBO’s Real Sports, about the rebranding of the AR 15 from a weapon of war to the “Modern Sporting Rifle.” Seriously.

Of course, there’s still politics to discuss…

My favorite HuffPost columnist, Seth Abramson, returned to the show to talk about how to proceed if Hillary Clinton is the nominee. Seth is launching the New Blue Movement with a Twitter handle, @NewBlueMovement, and website at newblue.online.

I mentioned Brand New Congress as another similar group being formed, and after the show ended, a listener reminded me that the People’s Summit is gathering this weekend in Chicago. We discussed that last Thursday with Donna Smith, executive director of Progressive Democrats of America.

We’ve still got a lot of work to do!
