Indiana Governor Mike Pence yesterday signed into law The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, a law so discriminatory that former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer actually vetoed similar legislation.
Let’s be clear here. There’s no religious freedom anywhere in that law. It’s all about bigotry and exclusion, as it would allow anyone to use their religious beliefs to claim that they have a right to refuse to follow anti-discrimination protections and other laws.
The backlash is coming through loud and clear, from the NCAA (which has a big basketball game planned there soon, I hear), and from Broadway star Audra McDonald, of whom I am now a big fan!
In other news, Sen. Harry Reid announced that he’ll not run for re-election when his current term is up at the end of 2016. He’s already come out and endorsed the #3 man in senate leadership, Chuck Schumer, to take over as the leader of the Senate Dems. I’ll stand with the progressive groups who’ve already come out and endorsed Elizabeth Warren!
By far, the saddest news of the week comes from the French Alps, where the families of the 150 people killed when the German airliner crashed into the mountains. The more we learn about what happened, the more tragic it is. As one who has suffered from depression for decades, I’m horrified that the co-pilot allegedly decided to take all those innocent lives with him as he killed himself.
Today on the show, I spoke with Jon Gold, who hosts the “We Were Lied to About 9/11″ podcast, as part of Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox. I found him through a link to his recent interview with former Sen. Bob Graham about the still-classified 28 pages from the Joint Congressional Inquiry into 9-11, which you can hear here on Jon’s YouTube page… and here:
Thank Goddess it’s Friday!
Every Friday, we segue into the weekend with a Flashback Friday musical blast from my radio past. Today, we offered up a double-header.
First, my first interview with Aimee Mann from June 20, 1996 at LA’s KSCA fm 101.9.
And then, Jonatha Brooke from August 9, 1999 at LA’s Channel 103.1.
Both are still touring and making great music, so check them out… and have a great weekend! I’ll be back Monday to take on the world and a new week, radio or not!
