I think we’re living in a reality TV show called “The Surreal World.” Donald Trump actually went on the Today show and said he hasn’t had an easy life. His father made him a small, one million dollar loan which he actually had to pay back. And with interest, mind you. It’s shameful that this could happen in the United States of America.

And completely absurd that anyone in this country could fall for Trump’s bullshit.

Perhaps they’re seeing the light, and moving on to the next shiny object! A NY Times/CBS national poll shows Ben Carson edging out Donald Trump for the first time. Though Ben Carson is not much of a departure from Donald Trump. Stay tuned…

The two GOP front runners are sparring over something that isn’t supposed to be discussed in polite political circles, and definitely not invoked as a test for elected office (but that side only knows how to invoke the Constitution, not what’s actually in it), religion! It’s ironic, don’t you think, that the candidates who scream the loudest about the threat of Sharia law are the same people trying to impose their religious beliefs on the rest of us

Donald Trump, while loudly proclaiming that he’s a Presbyterian, said that Carson is a Seventh Day Adventist, intoning “I don’t even know what that is!” A dog whistle is what that is!

Meanwhile, Jeb! continues pandering, exclaiming that he’s all about the Jesus at Regent “University” with Pat Robertson. And Jimmy Kimmel actually asked Bernie Sanders if he believes in God. Bernie’s answer was perfect:

That’s how you answer an inane question like that, but promoting morality, what religion should be about

With this focus on religion in the presidential race (again), I called on Frank Schaeffer  for a conversation this morning about the GOP’s preoccupation with religion. Aside from being one of the more interesting people I know (click the link and read his bio and peruse his web site), he’s a great resource on the religious right because he was there when it was conceived! Seriously. Frank wrote about it in his memoir, Crazy for God: How I Grew Up As One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back.  His latest is Why I am an Atheist Who Believes in GOD: How to Give Love, Create Beauty and Find Peace.

And if it’s Tuesday, it’s GottaLaff! Today, like the rest of the country, we were outraged about the school “resource officer” in South Carolina assaulting the girl who wouldn’t leave her classroom.

With that kind of shit going on, it’s no wonder we need a good laugh. I’m not so sure why this is so funny and why this video got over 13 million views on Facebook, but it cracked me up too.

Back tomorrow to pull some stories from the Oy FloriDUH files with Deborah Newell Tornello, and Dave Johnson disagrees with me about how the US should proceed in Afghanistan, and he’s going to come on anyway. All that and more, radio or not!
