I was planning to be back on the air this evening, but the damn fig tree got the best of me.
Actually, it’s my fault my foot is broken and I’m in pain. I guess I should start at the beginning.
Alison and I stopped off to visit my sister near Ocala Saturday on the way to take Alison to camp. My sister lives on a lake in the middle of nowhere, with lots of fruit trees on her property. The figs up high were looking ripe, so I climbed the ladder to pick some. I missed the bottom rung on the way down and fell on my foot.
It swelled up and hurt, but I still drove Alison to camp yesterday, and drove the five hours home afterward. I couldn’t really walk on the foot, but it hurt mostly on the right side (yes, of the right foot).
This morning, it was still swollen and painful, so I went to an urgent care place where I got an x-ray. And yes, the fifth metatarsal bone is broken. You can see it for yourself. It even looks painful!
Tomorrow I go to the orthopedist to find out if I’ll need surgery. Yes, this truly sucks.
