12-21-20 Nicole Sandler Show – GOP Hypocrisy, Sedition and the 4th Estate with Jason Leopold

Download here or click below to play     I didn't think it was possible after the year we've almost completed, but the news is getting even more weird by the day. Today, we'll examine the rank Republican hypocrisy on display now more than ever, the ongoing acts of sedition and other nonsense Trump is considering, and the role of journalism in protecting Democracy. BuzzFeed News' senior investigative journalist and government-labeled FOIA Terrorist Jason Leopold is our guest today. No funny today, but I did show some of my paintings and promised I'd post them here for those who only [...]

Alanis Morissette

When Alanis Morissette burst onto the scene in the summer of 1995, KSCA fm 101.9 had been on the air in Los Angeles for about a year. I was one of the lucky few to be in the room for a showcase at a small club in West LA whose name I can't remember, though I can still picture the scene quite clearly. She was in the larger, upstairs room, filled with mostly industry people. I was mesmerized as she strutted across the stage, flinging her hair wildly while sing-screaming about going down on her ex in a theater [...]

7-4-19 Nicole Sandler Show – Hey Baby, It’s the Fourth of July!

"Hey Baby, it's the fourth of July!" In case you didn't recognize it, that's a lyric from "Fourth of July" by the band X. Today, we celebrate Independence Day with music. I promise, these are not the 4th of July songs you'll hear at the fireworks display or on the radio. But I hope you enjoy the selections. I'll be back with a new, live show tomorrow.

Jackson Browne

I had met Jackson Browne a few times over the years, and had seem him in concert dozens of times. I finally got to interview him for the first time when he joined me in the fm 101.9 Music Hall on September 13, 1996. This still ranks up among my favorite artist interviews. I then went on to host Jackson Browne for his appearance on the "Columbia Records Radio Hour". (I haven't been able to locate a recording of that, sadly.)   For a few years, we tried to schedule an interview on my Air America radio show. By [...]

Independence, War and Music

Angela McCluskey & Alan Cummings saying Yes to Scotland independence   Each Friday, we wrap up the week of shows with a journey into my musical past. Today, we mixed up past and present with a conversation with my old friend Angela McCluskey. For the past portion, we ventured back to August of 2000 for an interview I did with her then-band, Wild Colonials and heard their always-brilliant performance. Angela joined me via phone from her current home in New York to talk about life, music and the vote for Scottish independence.  As a native of Glasgow, Scotland, [...]

Music Can Soothe the Savage Beast

It can.. I know that music certainly helps me when I'm feeling off. After hearing about a murder trial that some misguided members of the media decided to call the "Loud Music Trial" (instead of the Jordan Davis murderer trial), I decided to turn the spotlight on how music is helping raise money for some truly progressive candidates. The Blue America PAC just wrapped up a truly special fundraiser for Congressman Alan Grayson.  Grayon's favorite artist is Joni Mitchell (click through for my print interview with her from a few years back), so all who donated to his campaign through [...]

A Heartbreaking Week Comes To An End

I'm certainly glad it's Friday. This has been an incredibly difficult week. Although Monday was just another day, the world changed on Tuesday afternoon at 4:53pm ET.  It's impossible to avoid the heartbreaking stories and images coming from Haiti, where the death toll today is estimated at somewhere around 150,000 people. Schools, hospitals, homes and most of the other buildings in and around the capital city of Port Au Prince collapsed under a massive earthquake that registered 7.0 on the Richter scale. As the days pass, the chances of survivors being pulled from the wreckage lessens. And we watch, helplessly, [...]
