This IS Your Grandma’s Weed, says 85 y/o GOP Fan of Legalization

Love us a good Grandma defending, growing, selling or using The Herbal Remedy story. "It's not Republican to support prohibition," says Houston granny and recently widowed marijuana activist Ann Lee. Who happens to be 85 and vote Republican. [Or used to, time will tell.] As this article and video

Weed and Music

I usually appreciate Fridays as much as the next person, knowing that with the weekend comes some down time. But this week, I really needed it. The end of the week that gave us "rectal rehydration" and other images that we can never erase from our minds couldn't come soon enough. But it wasn't only the torture report. We saw the Democrats cave, yet again. They let the Republicans get away with pushing through a massive spending bill with a number of truly heinous provisions shoved in, literally at the last-minute in the dead of night behind [...]

The Weed Scene: Going Green in 2014

It's a peculiar hypothetical, but how illuminating it would be to have a close friend come out of a coma that he'd been in since 2004 ... November 2014 rolls around, and he awakes to a country he barely recognizes. There's a confusingly unpopular but otherwise impressive black man in the White House, more than half the states in the country have legalized gay marriage and for a capper(?) -- two states have already legalized and taxed weed, and Holy Willie Nelson, more states have medical and recreational marijuana in mind and on the midterm ballot. That news almost makes [...]

#RANpaul, #WarOnWhites & More GOP Insanity

I don't know which on is more offensive - Congressman Steve King's comments to the DREAMers who dared question him about his desire to deport them, or Senator Rand (Ran) Paul's dine and dash upon hearing them identify themselves as DREAMers! I began the show with the whole video, embedded below for your convenience, and remind you why DREAM Action Coalition co-director Erika Andiola and fellow DREAMer Cesar Vargas wanted to talk with him in the first place. You'll remember that, in a Newsmax interview in July of 2013, Steve King likened DREAMers to drug smugglers with calves the size of [...]

Almost Blue

Today, we begin a new weekly segment on the show: The Steve Israel Hour, sponsored by Little Debbie   , featuring Howie Klein of the Blue America PAC and Down With Tyranny. In case you didn't know about Blue America, it's a PAC run by Howie, Digby, and Crooks & Liars' John Amato, for the purpose of vetting and identifying the best progressive candidates out there, mostly in Congressional races, and help raise money for them. The sad fact is the today's Democratic Party - the DNC, led by Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and the DCCC, chaired by Steve Israel, tend [...]

I Am Not a Bully or the Bridge(t) Gate Blame Game

For almost two hours today, NJ Bully Governor Chris Christie denied he had any involvement in the vindictive closure of multiple toll lanes leading on to the George Washington Bridge that resulted in massive traffic backups for four days in September 2013. He did, however, throw a number of his senior staffers under the bus (or off the bridge, as it were), and he played the victim. He can go cry crocodile tears with Frank Luntz.  Obviously, the Christie blame game (anyone but him) and his endless presser dominated today's show, which included Julianna Forlano's top five four excuses why [...]

A Progressive Path

"The problems we set out to address will not be solved overnight but make no mistake, the people of this city have chosen a progressive path," -- NYC Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio 11/5/14 Following the lead of the people of Los Angeles who elected a progressive Mayor in Eric Garcetti just six months ago, the people of New York handed Bill de Blasio a landslide. Knocking a giant hole in the media's contention that Democrats won't vote in a midterm or off-off year election, in race after race, not just the Democrats - but the PROGRESSIVE Democrats scored victories. From [...]
