“All the leading indicators for the job market look good.” #BlameObama

Because we all trust Fox more than any source on earth, here is some upbeat news that is being overlooked today... directly from Fox Biz: Payroll processor ADP reports the private sector added 213,000 jobs in September, more than the 210,000 jobs Wall Street anticipated. Here's more info, this time from a major member of the dreaded "librul media," the Los Angeles Times: The private sector added 213,000 net new jobs last month, indicating that the labor market rebounded after a disappointing August, payroll firm Automatic Data Processing said Wednesday. The September job growth was an improvement from ADP's figure [...]

Weekly jobless claims fall… again #BlameObama

Via David Horsey Oh how I love to use the #BlameObama hashtag to annoy trolls. Of course it goes without saying that President Obama isn't personally responsible for all economic events---good or bad--- including jobs reports. But since Republicans insist on blaming him for everything under the sun, why not hop on the bandwagon? And with that, here it is, directly from an email alert from none other than Fox Biz, the most trusted name ever, some upbeat employment numbers: The number of Americans filing for first-time unemployment benefits fell last week to 280,000 from an initially reported 315,000 the week [...]

Working for a Living… or Not

Just how much constitutes a living wage? Minimum wage certainly doesn't cut it.  Since 2009, the federal minimum wage has stood at $7.25 an hour - though some states pay less and a few paid more.   But if you were paid the federal minimum and were lucky enough to get 40 hours of work a week, you'd gross a whopping $290 for that week's work... and if you never took a day off, you'd gross an annual income of $15,080. For a family of two, that qualifies you as earning less than the federal poverty limit. In a nutshell, corporations [...]

The Day Before Thanksgiving Double Header- from Walmart to the Fiscal Cliff..er.. Curb and Beyond

The Black Friday sales are weird.  People subject themselves to crowding and pushing and manic people fighting over an item that will soon likely be forgotten anyway.  They wait in lines at ungodly hours, all to save a few pennies.  And low-wage workers are made to smile and help the angry mobs. In the past couple of years, the start time for Black Friday has inched ever earlier, now starting before Thanksgiving Thursday has ended.  The losers in this scenario are those low wage workers who have no other recourse.... until now. Walmart workers are going on strike.  More power [...]

Today’s Show – Monday Nov 7

Today, I was joined by Jamie Henn - Communications and Development Director of 350.org and TarsandsAction.org about yesterday's massive march and rally at the White House. Alan Rosenblatt was my guest to talk about the "Faux 15" - the 15 so-called "jobs bills" that have passed the Boehner House and are now "stuck in the Senate"... Here's the list on Canter's site, and here's how Nancy Pelosi's site explains them. This is how @drdigipol tweeted them out (posted newest to oldest: drdigipol Alan Rosenblatt There r the faux 15 #jobs bills passed by House. They kill jobs, kill people, & put air, [...]

On the Jobs Plan and 9/11

This is what I get for not doing a show on Fridays!  I catch up on Monday mornings! So... this morning on the show, I spelled out my feelings about President Obama's Jobs plan, which he presented to us by way of an address to a joint session of Congress Thursday night. I thought it was a good speech - delivered in a manner that he should have begun using two years ago I still don't like the "payroll tax holiday".  It gives those in Congress who keep claiming that Social Security and Medicare are insolvent the means to make [...]

Showdown!

I'm finallygetting around to posting Thursday's show on Friday morning.  It was a busy week, as I was honored to guest host the Randi Rhodes Show for the past three days, in addition to doing my own regular show here at Radio or Not. The one good thing about waiting until this mornings is that I get to include President Obama's Jobs speech in the "Showdown" wrap-up. As you'll hear by clicking on the link above (or downloading the podcast via iTunes, Stitcher or any of the various other ways of listening [...]

Next Up: The Locusts!

For mid-week in August, with the President and Congress on vacation, it's a pretty damned busy news day. Yesterday, during the lull between my show here at Radio or Not, and my fill-in stint for Randi Rhodes, an earthquake hit, centered in Virginia and felt in 22 states - quite strongly in Washington DC and New York City! Having lived in Los Angeles for 14 years, I'm an earthquake veteran. Having lived through the big '94 Northridge quake, I can talk earthquakes with the best of them! I'm also a hurricane survivor.  Although I was living in LA at the [...]

Where Are The Jobs?

While the very serious people in Washington are consumed with a fabricated crisis, millions of Americans are out of work.  The Republicans won big in 2010 by claiming they were all about job creation, but not one jobs bill has even been introduced in the Boehner-led House. The debt ceiling controversy is a diversion from the real problems we're facing.  The national debt could be eviscerated in 10 years if we adopted the People's Budget, proposed by the Progressive Caucus, without the unthinkable cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security that are being discussed now. And all of the "solutions" [...]

Underwater & Unemployed, and Laffy too!

It's a busy Tuesday at Radio or Not. Today is the first Tuesday of our regular Gotta Laff segment.  Sure, we'll share some laughs, but Gotta Laff (aka Laffy) joins the show every Tuesday for a look at some of the best stuff she's shared on her amazing blog, The Political Carnival, over the past week.  Of course that means she and I will share our thoughts and opinions on everything happening in the news.  You're welcome to chime in too -- either in the Ustream chat room or by phone at 800-795-1159.  That's in hour two (7pm ET). We'll [...]
