What I will not write about today: Infuriating news + snark chaser

Sometimes I get so frustrated and/or disheartened and/or annoyed by some of the news stories of the day that I can’t bring myself to write about them. Here are a few recent reports that made my blood pressure hit the roof. I am avoiding delving into them at length out of concern for my physical and mental health. CIA torture report not likely to result in reforms or prosecutions: "The Justice Department has cast the matter as a closed case... Federal prosecutors will not reopen their investigation of whether criminal laws were broken by CIA guards and interrogators for mistreating [...]

Hell Freezes Over

No, I'm not talking about The Eagles. But seriously, hell must have frozen over yesterday! Glenn Beck, the hate talker who was too extreme for Faux News, yesterday admitted that not only was he wrong about the US invasion of Iraq but, "Liberals, you were right!" Seriously! If you need to hear it right from the horses mouth, I  don't blame you. Just hit play: There was more. Of course, Beck was wrong about more than he got right in this clip... But there was more to enjoy: From the beginning, most people on the left were against going into [...]

FloriDUH, The Beatles and Why Hillary Shouldn’t Run

We'll begin with the fun stuff. Yes, that's a young me at KLOS in Los Angeles with Ringo Starr. Proof that I have met a Beatle! As the nation remembers back 50 years ago this week when The Beatles invaded America, played the Ed Sullivan Show and changed our lives, I noticed an article about an old friend of mine who owns a piece of that Beatles history! Andy Geller hit it big in the world of voiceover. In 2002, at the top of his game and a known collector, he learned about the piece of backstage wall at The [...]

CPAC – Laughing Liberally

So the annual gathering of CPAC (Conservatives Pandering Asinine Convictions) starts tomorrow in DC.  Actually, not in Wasington, DC itself, but in nearby National Harbor, Maryland - ironically at the Gaylord National Hotel (ironic, because no gay lords or organizations are welcome). I began the show today be perusing the official program, having no idea how many laughs would ensue.  So feel free to glance through the guide and enjoy all the comedic offerings: CPAC 2013 Schedule The schedule boasts some can't miss book signings, like Beating Obamacare: Your Handbook for Surviving the New Health Care Law  by The Honorable Betsy McCaughey Spin Masters: How the [...]

Leaks, Laffs and more in between

One of the first things I saw this morning was a tweet from The Nation's Greg Mitchell about a leak of the audio of Bradley Manning's testimony from his pre-trial hearing held a couple of weeks ago. Just out: Audio of Bradley Manning's court statement, one hour long, leaked and now published:bit.ly/W57hPk — Greg Mitchell (@GregMitch) March 12, 2013 A leak of the leaker.  Perfect. I followed this link to the Freedom of the Press Foundation page that published the audio, along with the YouTube video (below)  I shared on the show this morning, and an explanation of why they [...]

Anyone Else Missing an Hour? Schools? Media Responsibility?

Damn Daylight Savings Time.  Don't get me wrong. I like the fact that it stays light out later; I just hate losing an hour of valuable sleep time this time every year.  We should really pick a time and stick with it.  Unbelievably, Arizona does something right! Anyway, barring my tired status this morning, it was a busy show. I filled listeners in on our Saturday evening in the emergency room.  Alison had a softball injury that turned out to be a sprained index finger.  I erred on the side of caution, and will likely get  some interesting programming out [...]
