“Like the Duggar girls, I wasn’t aware I was being abused… I didn’t understand what was happening.”

Someone I've known and adored for several years has asked me to share something deeply personal with you, something relevant to recent revelations about the Duggar family. I had no idea that this had happened to her until she entrusted me to get her own story out. She felt a responsibility to bare her soul on this horrific episode of her life, because she felt it necessary to clarify a few very painful points to people who refuse to believe that it is indeed possible that young children who have been molested may not even be conscious of-- much less be able [...]

“Children need to be protected from the measles– and from politicians who speak as scientists.”

Anti-vaxxers continue to amaze and appall. Hence, today's Los Angeles Times letters to the editor, because our voices matter: It has been reported that Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey believes parents should have some choice about vaccinating their children and that Rep. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) believes vaccines should be voluntary. Both of these statements by presumptive would-be presidents promote fear mongering and help the anti-vaccination movement. The supposed connection between autism and the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine reported by disgraced British physician Andrew Wakefield in 1998 has been retracted and thoroughly debunked. For 62 years I have taken [...]

“Maybe as a society we value a dog’s life more than a human life.” #antivaxxers

Regular readers and RadioOrNot.com listeners know at least three things about me: 1. I love posting letters to the editor, because our voices matter. 2. I resent anti-vaxxers with the passion of eleventy billion white hot suns. 3. I do not tolerate idiocy well, if at all. For those of you who may have missed this post, please give it a read. I'll wait: My doctor’s kickass LA Times letter: “Ignorance cannot dictate public health.” Are you back already? Good, now check out this L.A. Times letter to the editor: My child is a student at Waldorf School of Orange County, and [...]

My doctor’s kickass LA Times letter: “Ignorance cannot dictate public health.”

I'm lucky. My internist is not only a top notch physician, he's also a sharp-as-a-tack, hilarious, proud liberal. Whenever I go in for a check-up, we spend the first ten minutes talking politics (Well, after he tells me a couple of jokes. Priorities, people!). And by talking, I mean lamenting. And by lamenting, I mean wanting to get drunk and point and laugh at random conservatives. Take the anti-vaccination crowd, for instance. You know them, the ignorami who want you to Just Say No to vaccines, because... freedom! Now meet Dr. Richard Wulfsberg, who not only rocks in general, but nailed [...]

“Kids are the only people in the world you’re ‘allowed’ to hit.” (VIDEO) #ViolenceIsViolence

Please watch this entire video. It's less than a minute long: I had some very disturbing conversations on Twitter yesterday. Not only were they disturbing, but mind-boggling. I was floored that I had to provide the following information to so many people: Merriam-Webster: Definition of SPANK : to strike especially on the buttocks with the open hand Merriam-Webster: Definition of STRIKE  :to hit (someone or something) in a forceful way Spanking = hitting in a forceful way. Hitting = violence. Clear? Unless, of course, you don't consider striking or hitting to be violent. But, oops, physical force is part of the very definition of [...]
