And … she sings.

Yes, this is indeed the same Lauren Mayer of The Political Carnival fame! She’s graciously agreed to let us post her highly hilarious musical satirizations and observations here at Laffy’s Place at Radio or Not as well, and more tickled I could not be to have the pleasure of introducing her.

Lauren’s description of this week’s ‘tribute’ to 50 Shades of Grey:

The Real Reason Behind the Success of “50 Shades Of Triple Crap”

The runaway success of these books (and now the movie based on the first one) could be seen as a sign of the decline of American culture (although the Kardashians could give them a run for their money). How could lousy writing, dreadful character development, and not-even-very-sexy sex scenes be such a phenomenon? (I mean, I only read the first one to see what the fuss was about honestly, and that may have accounted for a large portion of the sales.) Start with a virginal English major who is gorgeous but doesn’t know it, has never thought about sex, and has managed to read everything Thomas Hardy wrote without expanding her vocabulary beyond “jeez” and “my inner goddess is doing the merengue.” Add in a dashingly-handsome-self-made-billionaire who doesn’t seem to do any actual work and whose stalking, abusive behavior is supposed to be interpreted as grand passion – apparently because he plays brooding classical piano, and who could have any woman he wants but decides he has to have the heroine because of the fetching way she bites her lip. And it only gets less believable from there.

But it turns out the target audience of suburban moms will put up with all these flaws because we are so eager to indulge our real fantasy – having someone else make decisions for us for a few precious hours. Now just imagine if someone could write a ‘mommy-porn’ book that included a hero who took over the carpool!
