Religion is like a penis. It’s fine to have one. It’s fine to be proud of it. But please don’t whip it out in public and start waving it around. And PLEASE don’t try to shove it down my children’s throats.
It seems that the people who don’t follow that golden rule are also the ones who have absolutely no understanding of what Jesus (who they claim to follow) actually taught.
Today, we talked about religious hypocrisy with comedian John Fugelsang, who agreed with me that people like Pat Robertson, Bryan Fischer, Ralph Reed and others are more closely aligned with the church of the holy hypocrite than anything else except, perhaps, the almighty dollar.
I started the show by going off on some women who are truly clueless. From the Republicans in Texas who claim that women are either too busy to fight for equal wages for equal work to those who say women just don’t negotiate as well as men do(!), to a Minnesota state representative who says that all these “special” bills for women just make us look like whiners, I think these women should be drummed out of our sorority. So much for “Man Smart, Woman Smarter”. These people are just plain fucking stupid.
Crooks & Liars‘ Susie Madrak joined in to commiserate with me about that, and talk about the ongoing fight to raise the minimum wage and to once again explain that if we’re ever to return to reality from opposite world, we all must get involved. What are you waiting for?
