It was a bit of each this morning on my show.

It’s been a long day.  After doing my show (podcast here) this morning, I hopped in the car and drove up to the West Palm Beach studios where Randi Rhodes does her show, and filled in for her.

I usually podcast my show within an hour or so after it airs live but, obviously, wasn’t here to do it today until now.  But the blog title pretty much sums it up.

LIFE:    I spoke with Rev. David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World.  He was one of a dozen religious leaders from Circle of Protection who met with President Obama last week to ask him to put a “circle of protection” around the programs for the hungry and the poor – especially in light of all of the cutting talk currently underway in Congress.

DEATH:  Frank Schaefer joined me to talk about the murders of so many innocent people in Norway, and how what happened there could just as easily have happened here.  His latest piece for AlterNet is “Christian Jihad: Why We Should Worry About Right Wing Terror Attacks Like Norway’s in the US”. It’s quite frightening.

MORE LIFE: I had the pleasure of speaking with Village Voice’s Steven Thrasher, who spent yesterday covering and experiencing some beautiful and once-in-a-lifetime historic events as same sex couples were legally allowed to wed in New York.  He was on Randi Rhodes’ show with me today, but will join me tomorrow morning on my show too.  We could all use a really, really feel-good story right about now.
