It's a day of dueling stories - hope and joy at the Supreme Court as the justices hear the case that could lead to marriage equality across the land. And Baltimore burns, as protesters mourn the loss of another unarmed black man to police. GottaLaff joins in to discuss the dichotomy. And David Cobb of Move to Amend on the fight to get money out of politics...

We talk about all of it on today's show. “Every time you vote Republican, you probably are voting against your self-interest.” #CitizensUnited

Michael Hiltzik is a top notch columnist, and some of his readers who commented on a recent Los Angeles Times post of his apparently agree. He wrote about something that is destroying what's left of our democracy: Campaign finance, specifically the Supreme Court Citizens United decision that legally transformed corporations into people: In the wake of Citizens United, the voice of the ordinary citizen has all but disappeared from Capitol Hill. It doesn't matter whether the donors are Democrats or Republicans; money becomes a political interest on its own. Nor is it a virtue of Citizens United that it took contribution limits [...]

Pachyderms Lumber Into Line For the ‘Free’ GOP Gold

Cartoon via TruthDig.com   Quantity versus quality? What a waste of ill-gotten USD. For a 'political party' that publicly disdains Free Stuff (like basic nutrition and shelter for the folk they happily let languish in poverty and Social Security earned by those who worked two or three jobs to get their families by), Republican presidential candidates are lining up for campaign lucre with vulgar dispatch. And in vomitus variety and number. It appears that the loudest dog whistle of all for the Right Wing, is the one that alerts them to bags and bags of available campaign cash [...]

We the people need our own channel instead of being “terrorized by corporate cable news”

Couldn't have said it better myself: Here is a recent Los Angeles Times letter to the editor, because our voices matter: I will not let my jealousy of Rick Steves (for turning a passion for traveling into professional success) get in the way of congratulating him for his wonderful piece on the cable news-stoked fear gripping this country. The corporate media that create this fear damage our society in incalculable ways. ("Tune out cable news and turn away fear," Op-Ed, Nov. 4) As Steves says, their agenda is profit. But how could anyone not notice the ramping up of Islamic State [...]
