I don’t question the “home of the brave” – that was proven again earlier this week when 17 firefighters lost their lives demonstrating their bravery while truly trying to protect some fellow Americans.   But is America still the ‘land of the free”?

I don’t think so.

The Bill of Rights has been gutted – except for the Second Amendment, which is the only on the Republican Party seems to care about, even though they ignore its first four words “A well-regulated militia”.

And although, via the documents released by Edward Snowden, we now know that the Fourth Amendment

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

is moot – the media is distracting us with stories of the messenger(s) instead of the message.

What was the part of the First Amendment about  a free press?  I guess the press is free to propagandize, but not to actually report news.  And the media malpractice in the over-hyping and non-stop coverage of the George Zimmerman murder trial is serving no purpose other than inflaming an already ready-to-blow public.

As for the Fifth and the Eight Amendments,  those too are on very shaky ground.

Jason Leopold has been covering the plight of the Guantanamo detainees better than anyone else.  Today, he joined me to talk about his newest report, including the information obtained via a FOIA request about the death of a detainee – long cleared for release (and known to be guilty of only being the wrong place at the wrong time)  is maddening.

He’s now posting lots of stories at the Public Record, which you should bookmark and read regularly, as it’s one of the few places you’ll get the truth!

Amy Simon of She’s History told us of a special show she performed last week in NYC for the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women and the New Abolitionists.

And John Amato joined in from Crooks and Liars to talk about the media’s failure to report real news, instead focusing our attention on shiny objects like George Zimmerman.

We’ll be off tomorrow for the 4th of July and Friday as usual – but we’ll bring you special programming both days – rebroadcasts of the two shows we did last week from Netroots Nation.  So, tune in tomorrow and Friday mornings to watch and/or listen to those shows, and I’ll be back live Monday morning… radio or not!
